I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

schedule flexibility, discount, overall daily functions aren't very stressful and the store isn't open past 8 on most days

    Cons

Very competitive and catty environment with little growth opportunity. If you want to make a career or substantial income in the cosmetic department be sure to ask about the counter's volume, fragrance and skincare are a higher price point so you'll make more commission (cosmetic's is 3%) lower price point counters are harder to sell because it's a very slow store.

    Pros

    Associate discount, great health benefits

    Cons

Pay is terrible unless you have a million dollar book, otherwise prepare to spend your day fighting with your co-workers for clients and sales. Management floods the floor with too many sales associates making it nearly impossible to make more than your draw.

    Advice to Management

Stop adding Sales Associates to the sales floor.

    Cons

Unreasonable sales goals. Managers play favorites. Corrupt HR and management.

I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Discount on great clothes, learned a lot about designers & price points.

    Cons

Poor management, rude co-workers who scare away customers just to earn commission.

    Advice to Management

Work on managing more! I stood around with nothing to do for hours at a time.

I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great discount and products
    - Might meet some nice people
    - Club has regular hours so schedule is pretty consistent. Usually don't work Sundays or many holidays

    Cons

    - Very low hourly pay for amount of work you do and level of expectations
    - Might end up working with a crazy shopper - management doesn't really regulate the shoppers because they're high producers so they let them get away with A LOT. Expect some pretty poor treatment.
    - Very often make promises they don't keep. I've seen it happen for promised raises, promotions, Brand Ambassador positions, and moves to other departments. If they promise something it could take months or not at all.
    - They do whatever is best for them without considering if it's the right move for you. Focused only on the store's sales, not on helping or promoting their employees.

I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great variety of merchandise and brands, friendly working environment in alterations department, good employee discount, good prime location of the city.

    Cons

Very busy lunch room, very dirty and always packed, no free employee parking, elevators are breaking down too often, sales associates can be very rude to tailors or others, very competitive atmosphere where associates can be involved in conflicts, company on the headquarters level seems to not care about employees, health insurance is very bad and expensive.

    Advice to Management

No opportunities to communicate to senior management, impossible to talk to department manager, rude and yells at employees. It would be great to reconsider medical insurance for employees.

I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you work hard for them, they will work hard for you. They have acknowledged my hard work and have supported any thing I've needed. I say they are quite fair and easy to work for.

    Cons

Benefits are not that good. Plus their computer system/clientele system is dated. With many updates, this would change.

    Advice to Management

Keep showing your employees positive reinforcement.

I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great employee discount. Good hours. Great work-life balance; it depends on the manager, but usually they are flexible with scheduling around your life. Decent training, but not enough training to deal with the real situations that occur when working.

    Cons

Store culture is very pretentious. Lots of favoritism. Poor upper management. You have to pay monthly for parking. The way you are paid makes it very difficult to receive a decent check, unless you hustle like no other. Hard for to find room for growth past being a brand ambassador. Not acknowledged for the hard work. There will usually be many difficult employees to work with.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should make sure that floor managers know how to operate the POS systems, and to help associates more throughout the day. Upper management should listen to some feedback from employees to see what could be changed to make a better working environment.
