    Pros

Very good working environment. People are great to work with.

    Cons

Documentation for data structure was not defined clearly. So if you have a question, you'd better ask a more experienced employee.

I worked at Sallie Mae full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Professional work environment with great systems support, training and general management.

    Cons

At the time I left the SLM/Navient split had taken place and things were still in flux - I have no idea how things are today.

    Advice to Management

Favoring internal candidates that are qualified is great - but when a candidate is selected because of personal favors it becomes terrible for both the candidate and general morale.

I worked at Sallie Mae full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Indy location is now mainly IT positions, but still has several other positions. Good work environment. Business casual attire. Company is set up for good growth short & long term. Entry level positions to management. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Average salary. Ever changing business, so if you do not like change it is not the place for you. Media continuously only gives bad publicity and hardly ever discusses the positive benefits of allowing people to find a way to pay for college.

    Advice to Management

Continue to allow employees to grow with the company. Make sure salaries & benefits stay competitive in the Indy job arena.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Sallie Mae

    Pros

Good work environment and you will be faced with new challenges everyday which will enhance your knowledge and skills.

    Cons

Its a bank whose primary business is student lending, therefore you will need to have some knowledge of the Student Loan Industry to gain success and move your way up within the company especially if you're coming in as an experienced professional. For straight out of college candidates you will have to earn your way up like any other firm.

    Advice to Management

Salary/Pay for exempt and non-exempt employees is very low compared to the industry standards and other companies in the same business.
