I worked at Saltgrass Steakhouse part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have zero pros for this company. You can work at ANY restaurant and make a living. There is NOTHING special

    Cons

Ridiculous 3% sales tipshare. -$10 every two weeks for an employee discount of 50% at your restaurant for you and 3 others, and select few other restaurants, that you can’t even use all the time or at all of the Landry’s restaurants. You pay for a discount that comes with more stipulations than it’s worth. It’s a SCAM. (Guess this $20 per employee per two week period discount is how Fertitta the billionaire pays for his vacations) The training is a JOKE. They put you through extensive series of written tests everyday on food you’ve never even seen before. You must make a 90 or better or you’re sent home. (they love wasting people’s time and money) They make you memorize a ‘spiel’ and make you do everyone’s work for them, feigning that it’s a “team effort” but once you get on the floor you realize it was all a con. There’s health violations all over the place! They only care about $$$$. The management brow beats you until you cower beneath them. This isn’t a restaurant, that isn’t management, this is boot camp. The way management treats their staff is the equivalent of an owner kicking their fear-loyal dog. They can’t keep employees! They all quit, I was told this upon hiring! Their misfortune (lack of employees) is not your fortune! I read the reviews here on Glassdoor before working there, and I should’ve heeded other’s warnings. WORK ANYWHERE BUT HERE.

    Advice to Management

    GO BANKRUPT.

I have been working at Saltgrass Steakhouse full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I’ve worked for the company for 3 years and I’ve served at five different locations. All five locations have an amazing staff, everyone is so nice! One thing I enjoy about Saltgrass is the pivot point system. It’s helpful and makes me feel good knowing that I’m helping out other team members while they’re helping me. In my opinion it just makes the shift easy and smooth.

    Cons

Unfortunately there’s no gratuity when it comes to large parties. If you fail to keep a constant high sells going, it’s going to affect not only your rank and your section size. But the money you make. If you fail to sell LSCs or to up sell in general, you’ll be required to attend salesmanship classes unpaid.

Sellin LSC’s can become annoying too. The managers expect you to spiel one to every table even if there already a member at the table. They also took the suggested gratuity off the final ticket making even more frustrating for severs. You do get a 25% discount... but you have to pay for it every two weeks. What’s the point of even calling it’s a discount if you’re payin for it?? And if you decide to not sign up for the discount and god forbid if they catch you drinking sweet tea out of a cone cup, you’re fired. Because you’re “stealing from Saltgrass”, it’s ridiculous. The largest party you can take alone is 12, so if a party of 13 walks in you’ll have to split it with a coworker. And the chances of you making money off the party is slim.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to Tillman Fertitta, the owner of Landry’s corporation. Take better care of your staff, we work our butts off and we shouldn’t have to pay for our discount and the clientele shouldn’t be able to push us around so much. I’ve had customers get touchy with me and the managers don’t do anything about it.

I have been working at Saltgrass Steakhouse part-time

    Pros

Builds your character and virtue being a waiter
Able to make decent money for a college student
Staff is easy to get along with and friendly

    Cons

    MANAGEMENT-
The Management here is disappointing. One or two I enjoy talking to and can be professional with, but there are others that are a nightmare; friendly when you first begin but turn after a few months, even to the point of telling white lies to you to avoid them taking responsibility and looking flawed.

    Advice to Management

Instead of leading my voice, lead my example; your servers can not do everything. If we are in the weeds as a staff it is not your job to point and complain but to get in the weeds with us. Being disrespectful to your staff does not make them respect you, it makes them want to quit.
