I have been working at Sam's Club full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

From my experience as an employee, I've found very little truth to the whole stigma of Wal-mart and Sam Walden companies being dead end jobs that only people with no other choice come to work at. Maybe I've just been lucky, but my direct supervisor and the store manager are both level headed, and handle the stresses of work quite well.

    Cons

That said.... other employees tend to be the largest problem. There is very little work ethic and morale in all but a handful of the associates, communication breaks down very quickly and while everyone is openly friendly and helpful with the members, they can be downright hostile to each other.

We are also understaffed, which has made things difficult.

    Advice to Management

Communication is a priority. If every floor associate had a walkie or was otherwise capable of staying in the loop on current developments than any issues would be taken care of much more quickly.

The scheduling needs to be assigned to a person, or at least reviewed. The automated system spits out very odd times and won't maintain coverage.

I worked at Sam's Club part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are good. As an employee you receive free membership to the club and they match up to 6% for your 401k. You can even buy stock in the company. The people are really nice.

    Cons

They only offer part-time positions and your availability has to be wide open to get decent hours. ALWAYS SHORTHANDED & high turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Offer full time positions to loyal & dependable employees as to avoid being so shorthanded on the floor.

    Pros

The employees had close bonds and seemed like friends and family so it helped everyone get along, and they were welcoming to newcomers.

    Cons

The lack of organization and demanding managers put too much pressure employees. Instead of boosting the morale of employees, they tended to make you feel guilty for missing targets.

    Advice to Management

Don't focus so much on putting pressure on employees to meet number goals, try to make them better at selling

The pay is better compared to most and the work isn't hard. There is a lot of different things you can do in the store.
