I have been working at Samaritan Health Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mission based not for profit, constantly seeking ways to serve the community.
Huge employer for area: 5 hospitals, many dozens of clinics in three counties.
Usually room for advancement or at minimum transfer should you get bored with your job and ready for something new.
Education and wellness benefits. Lots of continuing education opportunities in house.

    Cons

Size has its drawbacks. Change can be slooooow in coming. Left fans sometimes hasn't even met right hand yet: confusion can reign. Because of the layers of admin (and it's very hierarchical) your experience will be directly reliant on your immediate team and the effectiveness of your manager in advocating for your team needs.

    Advice to Management

Be transparent. Involve those who do the work in making key decisions, especially around personnel hires. Clamp down on the turf wars and help shape a cohesive vision for all employees to share.

I have been working at Samaritan Health Services full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Opportunity, training offered to keep your skills up to date. Many co-workers who are very friendly and offer excellent support.

    Cons

Some of the managers are not what I would call top of the line. They do have some very good managers, who let you know when you are doing well and when you could use some guidance.

    Advice to Management

Improve managerial skills through continued training and also screen managers with personality evaluation.

    Pros

The company is getting better with wellness benefits etc. to help employees to feel valued.

    Cons

There appears to be much more support for those professionals who are in a union such as the nurses.

I have been working at Samaritan Health Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Benefits, annual raises, great coworkers in my department at least, and the best manager I've ever had/could hope for.

    Cons

Pay could be a bit higher, but the regular pay increases help to balance this. Nothing that really sticks out as a negative past that.

    Pros

Great benefits. Full health insurance. Amazing PTO to be earned.

    Cons

Too many cooks in the kitchen who don't know how to cook. Tons of micromanagement and too many meetings to get your work done.

    Advice to Management

Let your people do their job. Listen to what they have to say and don't assume you know more than they do.

I worked at Samaritan Health Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Somewhat average however Peacehealth and Salem hospital pay higher. Med/dental is and Retirement is fair.

    Cons

Beware of employee policies. Be your own advocate!

    Advice to Management

Learn how to talk to all employees and treat people with respect. Learn your mission, vision & values from your webpage as this will help you treat your employees and the community better. Remember that your employees are also patients at times and if we receive poor service at each point of service contact, what does that say about the organization as a whole?
