I worked at Samaritan Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Samaritan is a large organization with multiple opportunities for employment. There are a lot of perks to working in a hospital for example, free flu shots, opportunities to donate blood, volunteer within the community, fast paced work environment to name a few, and Samaritan is no different. The work itself was good there. The facility has received some recent upgrades that have turned around the overall feel of the hospital.

    Cons

THE PAY SUCKS! When I first started working there it felt like I had walked into a time warp. The hospital decor looked as if it were 30+ years old. It kind of felt like an episode of The Twilight Zone. It is a small town and if you are an outsider, they treat you like one. Management acts the same way. Everyone is very clicky and they don't like new people. If you are a military spouse, forget it. You are not "in" with them. At least not in the department I worked in. Management stinks. They act like they'll help you when they won't. I was injured on the job because they were negligent and didn't salt an icy surface. I was treated terribly and have had 2 surguries for an injury that is most likely permanent. If we ever moved back, I would never work there again.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees. Don't treat outsiders like outsiders.

    Pros

The staff is dedicated to the patients.

    Cons

Too many Vice Presidents; too many local vendors using as cash-cow; CEO makes too much money for what he does.

    Advice to Management

    Dump Tom Carmen.

    Pros

Pleasant people, are needed in community, good salary, good colleagues, good location,up to date facilities ,being the provider for Fort Drum.

    Cons

Being in the snow belt can be a problem. Nearby housing is limited. Because of the weather house upkeep can be an issue. Change occurs slowly.

    Advice to Management

Be more responsive to MD ideas and desires. It appears that MDs are treated like everybody else. MDs because of training , responsibilities and temperament are problem solvers . The culture is to follow distant dictates which sometimes do not make sense.

I have been working at Samaritan Medical Center part-time

    Pros

Great place to work. Some annoying drama with the women that work there. But what do you expect when 95% of women work there.

    Cons

Too much drama with the other employees. Takes away from the reason we're there. YOU WILL BE MANDATED. Seems like employees dont care for their jobs. And management doesnt know what punishment is.

    Advice to Management

Instead of moving people around to other floor to work, let them go. They only stir up more and more drama on every floor they go to.
