I have been working at Sammons Financial Group full-time

    Pros

Sammons if one of the few firms that actually does what it says for values. The culture is truly something special . The benefits and ESOP are 2nd to none.

    Cons

To date I don't really have any cons.

I have been working at Sammons Financial Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Employee owned. Many great benefits. Friday afternoons off! My co-workers are all so welcoming and helpful. Love the comfortable feeling when coming to work and everyone seems happy to be here.

    Cons

I have not had any issues or "downsides" to working here.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. You are very involved in the employees and are there for us when needed.

I have been working at Sammons Financial Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

When I started at Sammons over 8 years ago, I came from an industry that did not value culture and work life balance so when I got to Sammons and saw the importance they put on these, I thought there was no way it could be sincere. It absolutely is and I'm frequently amazed at the new ways they breathe fresh life into the culture here. The availability and openness from leadership at all levels is refreshing and appreciated.
There are many great perks working at Sammons:
    - Volunteer opportunities during work hours for company-sponsored initiatives
    - A full day of Volunteer Time Off
    - Casual dress
    - A bonus structure
    - Closing at 12:30 on Fridays - who doesn't love a half day year round?
    - Remote work potential - currently more than half of my team works remotely full-time.
    - Last but not least: ESOP - this is unlike anything I have heard of anywhere else and is truly the most generous retirement benefit I know of.

The list can go on, but I have really enjoyed my time at Sammons and look forward to many more years to come.

    Cons

I don't have any major downsides to speak of.

I have been working at Sammons Financial Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Amazing work-life balance. The company really cares about the employee perspective and places a lot of emphasis on our culture. I really feel like my opinion and ideas matter. Career development is emphasized with plenty of training opportunities to enhance skills and future growth.

Participation in the company funded ESOP is an amazing benefit and allows employees to build a retirement nest egg that far exceeds that provided by a 401(k) match (Sammons offers a 401(k) plan, but there is no company match because the ESOP benefit is so generous).

Community Involvement and Healthy Living committees. The company is starting to introduce 'remote' or 'work from home' options for certain positions, which is helpful if you have a long commute.

    Cons

Smaller company (in comparison to some of the larger companies in metro area), so promotions may be slower than expected for some people.

    Pros

Everyone is very welcoming. The training process was very inclusive, and the environment is fantastic

    Cons

The insurance plan isn't the greatest, which can be explained by since we are an employee owned company.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up!

    Pros

After working at large, public companies I wasn't sure what to expect - but it's been a refreshing change. The work culture is so positive, and leadership is intentional in making sure it's a great place to work. The ESOP is a fantastic benefit as well as Friday afternoon's off.

    Cons

None come to mind at this point!

    Advice to Management

Continue the intentional focus on the culture - it is working!

I have been working at Sammons Financial Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has a good culture, pays fairly well (including a bonus structure), has an ESOP and early out Fridays.

    Cons

They put a lot of effort into forcing you into the culture and a lot of the management structure is pretty vertical. It isn't as noticeable in line level positions, but you can see some of the specialty areas almost have more managers than employees.

I worked at Sammons Financial Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Esop is the biggest but takes years to realize the impact. Lots of job opportunities to at least take you to 60k/year range if you have skills and drive. After that you might have to move on. Management is easy to work with and listens to issues. Sammons is starting to lose its "small company" feel which could be bad. Lots of overtime opportunities for non exempt employees and overall work life balance is great.

    Cons

Low starting salary even for having college degrees ($30k). Health care plans are expensive and keep getting worse for coverage offered.

    Advice to Management

I know Sammons continues to grow and improve but please don't turn it into a principal or wells Fargo. Sammons is truly a great company to work for if you put in the effort.
