I have been working at Samsara full-time for less than a year

    Pros

A lot of opportunity in sales still since the company is still relatively new. The people, culture, pay, benefits are great. The product is best in the industry and they continue to innovate at a rapid rate making a sales persons job much easier.

    Cons

Can be a grind, but that’s normal for a start up.

I have been working at Samsara full-time

    Pros

Avg tech start up perks, uncapped commission, reachable quotas

    Cons

Blatant favoritism by management in sales dept. They don’t treat everyone the same and don’t even try to hide it. They also micromanage like crazy and focus on quantity over quality for cold calling. Someone else has already mentioned this but it is so true. People are praised for high calling numbers but these are not quality calls they are just for the sake of numbers. Didn’t let on that we were hit as hard as we were because of coronavirus and so many people were laid off without warning. Also sus that most of the people let go were minorities. Already a company lacking diversity so this was not a good look for us. Our department now is almost completely white. Company culture is dominated by bros like most sales jobs and it is very cliquey

I have been working at Samsara full-time for less than a year

    Pros

People here are genuinely talented, hardworking and passionate (usually in that order) who are earlier in career. Fantastic opportunity to learn and grow. Exec leadership does their best to be transparent and share insight into the business and decision making which is rare and feels good to be a part of.

    Cons

Workload and expectations can be overwhelming at times.

I worked at Samsara full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Samsara has a great culture. Leadership is relatively transparent. Benefits are amazing.

    Cons

Unfortunately, Samsara is overloaded with sales executives. The leads that are in the CRM are usually littered with bad info. More than likely recycled from another rep who dropped the account a day before being redistributed. Inbound transfers are few and far between unless you've been at the company for awhile. Definite favoritism in play.

I worked at Samsara full-time for less than a year

    Pros

CEO is honest and a good leader. Good benefits. Great co-workers... tech smart, dedicated. Great working environment.

    Cons

Very aggressive with recruiting, sales cold calling, marketing, etc. Overall, work force is very young and in-experienced (in some cases)... leading to poor business decisions.

    I worked at Samsara full-time

    Pros

I loved this company at first... it was the place to be a year ago. Talented coworkers, great WLB, perks, swag, team events

    Cons

Things got really bad about a year ago. The sales team was clearly unhappy and it eventually trickled over to other teams, as negative sentiment tends to do. Feedback was ignored for years and people who were too loud with feedback were pushed out for having a "bad attitude" Some managers don't work and shouldn't have been promoted. Coming from Meraki shouldn't guarantee a people management role. Many recruiters were overlooked for management roles in favor of ex Meraki people/ better "culture fits" with less experience. This should have been addressed a year ago. According to current employees, the company is now 23% women. There's no excuse for that. 300 people were laid off and we've heard the company is hiring again with an emphasis on diversity. Diversity is so important, but why wasn't this a priority a year ago? Why were the people who fought and worked tirelessly for more diversity laid off if this is truly a priority now?

"Best place I've worked, hands down."

    5.0
Current Employee - Recruiter in San Francisco, CA

I have been working at Samsara full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Leadership is extremely transparent, always willing to explain things further and always giving us the big picture. I've never worked at a company like this, and it truly makes you admire the people you work for. It also gives you confidence they're looking out for you and have your best interest in mind while still doing what's best for the company. I sincerely enjoy the people I work with. My peers genuinely want to see those around them succeed and are always willing to help. Even though Samsara went through a layoff, we immediately started to help those impacted update their resumes, do mock interviews, even introduce them to folks in our networks who are hiring - I haven't heard of another company being this involved in helping out their alumni. Our product is impressive and we're always thinking of new technologies / ways we can help our customers. This isn't your typical Bay Area tech company. Overall, I've enjoyed my time here and am excited to see where Samsara goes in the future. I certainly want to continue to be part of the ride.

    Cons

We could do a better job in our diversity numbers, but it's not for a lack of trying. It's a huge emphasis and has been for years. I honestly don't think I have any more. I really respect this company and while yes, there are issues, there are always issues! You will never find a company that is absolutely perfect. There's always a give and take. Samsara checks all the important boxes for me, it might not for others, and that's perfectly fine.

    I worked at Samsara full-time

    Pros

Reasonably smart CEO, albeit he's all business and numbers, and YOU as an employee are also a number. Some great working-level people there. You will strongly bond with them, as you both navigate the many 'WTF' moments you will encounter regarding how things are done and what your managers say.

    Cons

Hmm how to explain the culture. Ever meet a person who says "I'm am really cool and fun" ? That is Samsara. They want that to be their image, but that's not how it works. Culture here in ops stinks and there is no confidence in leadership. The perks are poor. The catered food isn't great (and is likely gone after this recent downturn). Outings and offsite were also rare, and now cut. 'Growth fund' is bogus and extremely limited in use. Clubs are promoted but discouraged from spending funds and they are always checking to see if they can deactivate your funded status. Orgs are mostly siloed, and people walk past each other not knowing who does what - sad for such a small company. Trajectory is questionable, as you'd imagine from any company doing layoffs. Quality is questionable - tons of unhappy customers. The company has an 'obsess over customers' mantra but is laughable at how they practice it. Management was all imported from Meraki and promoted to roles for which they simply don't possess the leadership ability (or even the process management capability).
