I have been working at Samsung Electronics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you are only Dir/ Principle or above, then you fly business class. That won't be a pro anyways, but discrimination. Sorry, don't have anything good to say.

    Cons

This should be the last place in your career and will ask you to keep selling your soul. This is not a company challenging your talent.

    Advice to Management

    It's corrupted in the root.
Watch news or read international articles.
The Chairman is vanished and the CEO who is the son of chairman is being questioned for getting corrupted with government. It's all over the media amd people in Korea protesting every single day asking for truth and compensate for the cause. I can write a book about this place after a few years of my time trying to overcome.
Everyone around me trying to get out looking for jobs right now.

I worked at Samsung Electronics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mobile, devices, innovative company that moves fast. Great opportunity to get into mobile if you can stomach the ridiculous demands and cut-throat culture.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations, executive management that doesn't care about employee well-being, tolerant of unethical behavior.

    Advice to Management

If you wish to retain top talent, recognize strong performers and good behavior, care about employee morale. Don't reward performance at any cost - cheating and stealing are tolerated and should not be encouraged.

    Pros

You can get away with doing very little work as long as you establish the right personal relationship with management.

    Cons

Samsung has a highly political environment where perception is everything. Good technical work is not rewarded, sometimes even discouraged. This is a terrible place to work if your ambition is to make a career out of doing good technical work.

    Advice to Management

Focus more on building good product. Be more transparent. Hire based on technical ability and cultural fit instead of loyalty at previous companies.

Promotions are not based on performance but on how long you have been with the company
Management cannot figure out what direction to take

    Advice to Management

Get together a good idea as to where the business is going to go

    Pros

Some employees are able to test out products. Many employees are contractors. No new hires.

    Cons

Low morale, no software support, uses archaic systems: old Windows edition, old Microsoft Suite, gives too many responsibilities for one worker, poor management, poor opportunities for advancement, questionable ethics in management

I worked at Samsung Electronics as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Samsung Technology is some of the best on the market.

    Cons

Double-standards between American and Korean counter-parts. Constant Fire drills due to poor project management and lack of communication between all of the functional departments. American and Korean teams are constantly at odds with each other. Job roles are constantly being redefined. There is no consistency in managing a project at the executive level, and the vision is never clear.

    Advice to Management

Go back to school, learn how to manage a project, learn how to build trust within the organization, and improve relations between American and Korean teams.
