I have been working at Samsung Research America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

As a person who is involving the IP matters, anybody could get the best opportunity to learn all about the IP matters because SRA has been developing the cutting-edge technologies like VR, AR or AI so that it definitely could provide the environments to experience all IP matters from prosecution to legal claim or litigation incurred in U.S. I really have been satisfying with my carriers in SRA.

    Cons

There is no Cons at this time.

    Pros

Great place to work at good work life balance if you understand the job and expectation.
Manager support is very strong very open communication. Opportunities to grow are available if you want it. I am very happy with Samsung company culture many great talented people work here making it a positive experience.

    Cons

Approval process can be prolonged through internal approval path. Some internal systems are outdated for example long process and hard to navigate when submitting expense report.

    Advice to Management

Open communication is key for a successful team. Reward and acknowledge outstanding employees.

I have been working at Samsung Research America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Nice campus
Could be fun for a while if you end up in one of the rare fun teams;)
Good benefits although no RSUs or profit sharing

    Cons

If you do not care about innovation or the project you work on, this could be the right place for you
If you keep head down and do not care about anything then you will be fine
President and lab head care about own career and do not care about company success
Most projects are doing poorly... Bixby, SPay, KME... There is a big question mark looming over the institution and if it will stay open for a long time
Lab head announced new performance reviews measures for engineers and did not announce performance reviews for VPs and directors. Looks like he is going to make the engineers pay the price for the lab failures

    Advice to Management

Do a performance review of lab leaders and VPs against other bay area management
Most projects are failing because VPs and management do not have good experience and cannot attract great talent

    Pros

Large desks, lots of empty spaces, table tennis and foosball

    Cons

Dictatorship management style. Lots of turn over. Lots of stress. Everybody around is new and the few people that have been around for more than a year seem to be there because they have an issue of some sort: incompetence, visa issue...

    Advice to Management

Change management style - remove fear and stress

I have been working at Samsung Research America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, nice campus, excellent gym, Samsung gives day is a great initiative

    Cons

Worked on B2B team, Bad management, poor vision, lack of direction, copycat shop.
Leader comes from university and treats engineers as students.
He has no vision, no experience leading large teams, and their direction changes by the day.
They promote and reward incompetent people for their loyalty and order execution, Korean/Chinese style. They surround themselves with VPs who are incompetent, and who do not lift a finger without asking them for permission. Those VPs are promoted for their loyalty and not for their competence. They can tell you a good story, but after 5 minutes of conversations, you discover they have no depth, no experience and cannot take any initiative. All they do is slow things down, waste people time in useless meetings, and play the blame game if anything goes wrong.
They often do not qualify for VP or director at any other company and therefore they spend most of their time playing politics, reshuffling people, creating useless meeting and changing other people's plans - often to something that does not make sense - in order to assert themselves.
Everytime the B2B leader says something -even if it is a bad idea - that becomes the new priority for everybody, and nobody can question it... People lost their job for reportedly arguing with leadership ideas or for not executing the bad ideas.
Things move very slowly, quality is below bar, and I found colleagues spend half their time looking for other jobs.
The result: stifled innovation and nothing gets done.

    Advice to Management

Change leadership and bring qualified competent leaders

    Pros

Great benefits. Freedom to do your research. Brilliant people to work with. Competitive compensation

    Cons

Things could move slow. Sometimes the company seems to hierarchal

    Advice to Management

Overall, SRA is a great company to work for. The people, from engineers to designers, are super talented, and the management gives you a lot of autonomy for your work. However, being a foreign corporate, things could move really slow. For a designer, this could be a bad thing, because you won't have something to put in your portfolio for awhile. Also, the communication is not as transparent as you wish.

Thank you for taking the time to review SRA. It is definitely challenging at times to navigate our foreign HQ, but we're so glad that you are enjoying your time with us!

    Pros

Good benefits, good food (not free), great facilities

    Cons

Highly stressful Korean style management, Korea style.
    Orders are given top down.
No independent thinking. Do what the VP / EVP says or you are out.
No research, just implementation of old ideas, or copy what Apple or other companies have already offered.
Management shouts at people during meetings and humiliate them, often for wrong reasons.
Bad leadership. Senior leadership sucks. Direction changes on a daily basis. Leaders are not qualified for the job

    Advice to Management
