I have been working at Samsung Research America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

As a person who is involving the IP matters, anybody could get the best opportunity to learn all about the IP matters because SRA has been developing the cutting-edge technologies like VR, AR or AI so that it definitely could provide the environments to experience all IP matters from prosecution to legal claim or litigation incurred in U.S. I really have been satisfying with my carriers in SRA.

I worked at Samsung Research America full-time

    Pros

Great facilities, location, food, drinks, state-of-art technologies

    Cons

Projects usually don't go well with bad managers. There are many out there. Surprisingly hard to get things done under interference of inexperienced and arrogant managers. Is it due to Korean responsibility system that they need to appear "great" by putting others down and treat everyone as an enemy? Their day-to-day activities are overwhelmingly counterproductive. Things will just go as great as hell without them, seriously. If you plan to do quality work here, be careful about your manager. Make sure he is not a jerk. Your work and life may be ruined completely.

    Advice to Management

Are you there to only fake and put people down?

I worked at Samsung Research America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I didn't notice a big pros compared to other american companies.

    Cons

Before joining SRA I was reading through the reviews, but didn't care. After a few months, I realized truly they are correct.
My big problem was that management instead of being "with" you or support you, are more "against" you by default. Don't say "this is group specific"..No! I was saying that myself before joining. This is a policy and looks like they choose managers based on that.
The company is not generous at all. Rising is hard.
Overall, avoid working for this company.

I worked at Samsung Research America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Minimal process in engineering within R&D labs.
Opportunity to work on a diverse set of projects.
Heavy bias on co-location, meaning most are not required to work after they leave for home.
Decent benefits, great health insurance and good 401k matching.

    Cons

Hard to see impact for projects outside of the labs.
Directors and Managers are old school and do not adapt to newer processes and technology.
The company vision is more like following others success and others innovation than innovating themselves.
Lack of engineering process can also be a con if someone wants to move to a company that is heavy in process.
Labs report to HQ in Korea, but most employees don't understand what HQ wants.

I worked at Samsung Research America full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Exciting corporate culture! Innovative system building within IT and Electronic Device management! Interpersonal workplace! Very diverse and culturally expansive! Silicon Valley enthusiastic! Large corporate network with room to grow! Forward thinking and positively motivated! Contemporary designed! Very heartfelt conceptual valued!

    Cons

Still a young and burgeoning arm of the Samsung Electronics Corporation! Somewhat not recognized as a force by the Fortune system. Glass ceiling seemed oppressive. The culture seemed a bit bland and tasteless; it didn't seem to portray or teach the conceptual value to the degree that forms the foundation of the company of Samsung itself. Maybe that value is what SRA was researching in general :)

    Advice to Management

Value the individual to the degree that you would want to be treated. Establish a core sense of your own "personal" or corporate value system. Be an individual just like the main players in the tech field like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, etc. all do. They each carry their own sense of personality and character and SRA was missing that sense when I worked there for the 6 months contract that I completed. I really loved my experience there though as a growing experience and a defining piece of my own mentality of success. Good luck and my love as an American is with you always.
