I worked at Samsung Research America as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Complete autonomy on a personal project, pays well, creativity for future projects is entirely allowed and encouraged.

    Cons

Housing in the bay area is very expensive, bureaucracy from outside of your own lab can sometimes get you down.

    Advice to Management

    Pay Irene more! She's amazing!

I worked at Samsung Research America (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Salaries are good.
Co-workers are friendly and fun to work with.

    Cons

I didn't have many things to work on. Also my lab was struggling with budget.

    Advice to Management

This one needs a head who has strong visions of the lab and are good at program managing.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Samsung Research America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary, budget, Samsung can attract talented people even if those people aren't allowed to perform to their ability

    Cons

Environment, culture, pacing, constant shifting directions, lack of empathy for employees, constant shifting of priorities, literally a ferris wheel of executive leadership (on the Korean side), inability for global teams to have a material impact on the business (and get credit for it), most of the American operations are a farce as Korea decides all

    Advice to Management

Learn to be a global company. 'CEO' of SISA means nothing because the shots are called from Korea.

"A smattering of talented junior/midlevel people trapped in a hellish prison of inept leadership and cultural impasse."

    Pros

**This is specifically for Samsung UXCA/SDA in San Francisco**
They pay you a lot of money.
The hours are very much 9-5.
    They have great recruiting.

    Cons

**This is specifically for Samsung UXCA/SDA in San Francisco**
You will never release a product in the market. They do not– and probably never will– have any support from headquarters in Korea to actually make products. They are either a tax loophole or an ideas factory that has no say in actual shipping products.
You will be asked to do redundant or nonsensical projects.
Leadership will constantly tell you what a great and unique position the lab is in.
Atmosphere is peculiar at best and toxic/poisonous at worst.
Any additional bonuses or compensation will have 2+ year vesting clauses that trap you once you realize you must escape.

    Advice to Management

**This is specifically for Samsung UXCA/SDA in San Francisco**
Stop pretending everything is ok. 70% attrition is not normal.
Stop pushing out the creative leaders who don't agree with you.
