I have been working at San Bernardino County full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits, coworkers are pretty cool. The pay is average compared to private sector. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

We are treated like overworked robots and expected to manage extremely high caseloads. Management doesn't give two craps about you, as you are easily replaceable. Working for the county gives a feeling of being trapped. Not a lot of upward movement unless you are a brown-noser and work the political game.

I have been working at San Bernardino County full-time

    Pros

Unlimited overtime and a pension if that interest you.

    Cons

CFS/CPS has overwhelming caseloads and you are forced to complete duties in a timely manner with a carrier case load of 6o or more and 50 or more referrals, or you will be written up. They have tons of new supervisors that have been on the front line 5 years or less, very minimal experience. Within the whole San Bernardino County CFS/CPS County there is one African American male in Management, between Supervisors, Managers, and Deputy Directors. The higher you go up there is a dominance of white men and woman . African Americans in Management are afraid to speak up and will side with what's wrong in order to keep their position. There is currently a high turnover rate and droves of SSP's leaving to work for Riverside County. There are Deputy Directors and Managers who don't say hi to their superiors and just walk past them. For the hard work that is done on the daily you don't feel valued. There is known to be Deputy Directors who have personal beliefs about black men and don't know how to work with them, they find ways to push them out.

I worked at San Bernardino County full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Challenging, but extremely rewarding, in working with families and children, in order to provide the support and resources needed to improve their situation.

    Cons

Overwhelming caseloads, which frequently impacted the ability to provide the necessary time and ongoing support to a family that was clearly in need of this.
