I worked at San Bernardino County full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexible work hours, cross-training in different programs

    Cons

Toxic and unprofessional colleagues, poor management, micro-managing, back stabbing, promoting their friends who lack knowledge and skills, extremely low pay for the amount of work they expect from you, favoritism is strong and management does not value hard work.

    Advice to Management

This Division of EHS has gone down the drain extremely rapidly. Warning: avoid this County if you can help it. Since management has changed in the past year, everyone is leaving or trying to leave. The ones who remain cannot afford to leave. The ones who were promoted are friends of upper management and can’t perform well in their duties as lead because they have no experience and lack even the basic knowledge of... their program. Backstabbing is rampant and it is difficult to trust those you work with. They cannot stop gossiping, it feels like high school. Immature gossiping, snap chatting in meetings and conferences, cussing. If you can be fake and like the sneaky lazy environment, Everyone secretly hates each other. San Bernardino County EHS is for you!

I have been working at San Bernardino County full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Looks decent on a resume to get another job for High school kids Or College kids ,or retired adults or people who have no job at all . Recreation experience counts towards US forest Service & Other State Parks or you can apply for another cities Parks department im sure it can’t be ran as bad as this place that’s ...... if you can last long enough working for this department at any of there parks.

    Cons

Low pay you’ll make more at McDonald’s ,Little to No movement, Low hours 19 hours a week, Terrible leadership, lots of nepotism, there’s hardly any diversity, the park literally runs on County assigned court workers & Temporary contract employees,No veterans discounts for a daily entrance or for camping, IHOP gives discounts to veterans, are you kidding me ? Honor the people who have served are country , Even... Leslie Knope wouldn’t agree with that .....As a new worker you will be Working Saturday’s and Sunday’s and Holidays until you retire, lots of old unmotivated workers and leads ,young workers will spend there time cleaning toilets and locked in the cashier front gate while the older workers go play cops on there golf carts . “The fish rots from the head down this whole department is rotted” I have no personal coral with anyone there ,I promise ,I’m just speaking the truth ,Please take your time and think about it .

    Advice to Management

    1. Retire 2. Put more qualified individuals in management I recommend you get people who have a combination of education and experience NOT your buddy who has years on everyone else and can’t supervise or lead at all 3. Add some youth and diversity 4.Raise the pay and hours 5.Its a Business part of running a business is marketing and invitation ,you’ve offered the same basic ammentities and activities, since you’ve... opened up ,invest back in your “baby” rent bikes ,rent paddle boats, invite contract venders ,plant more trees, market yourself on social media offer better discounts to veterans and people with disabilities,a basic dinner gives discounts to veterans, why can’t you ?Wish the best for the parks and recreation department of San Bernardino County

    Negative Outlook

I worked at San Bernardino County full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Off on all holidays and summer.

    Cons

    Low pay and freezed raises.

    Advice to Management

Management needs better training for the most part, and some need to get out of the business. Too long in their position and lose sight of the goal for the preschool kids.

I have been working at San Bernardino County for more than 10 years

    Pros

Government job with decent benefits and pension. Job security that comes with a government job. Provides better jobs in rural areas.

    Cons

Low pay, all the surrounding counties pay significantly more. Many incompetent employees fostered by favoritism and nepotism. The best of employee retiring fast, their replacements are far below predecessors quality. Continuing corruption and waste of funds on ineffective programs.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging and start leading. Quit promoting your friends. Promote on basis of knowledge and ability. Ask for grand jury investigations of human resources, probation, and sheriff's departments. Acknowledge your staff role in accomplishments, rather than basking in the laurels yourself.
