    I have been working at San Diego Community College District full-time

    Pros

    -Good benefits and pay compared to other College districts.
    -Training programs for employees.
    -Nice co-workers/peers.
    -The District does great things for Students.

    Cons

    -Old way of thinking. Save your ideas because they will fall on deaf ears.
    -Everyone seems to be just "getting through the day". No sense of real happiness in my department.
    -Some people are in Supervisor and Management positions that are not good Leaders.
    -Job title overrides any experience someone might have or be able to contribute.
    -Not always positive. Emotions are heavily worn on sleeves.
    -Not all departments have upward movement.

    Advice to Management

    -Encourage Teamwork and building up your staff.
    -People are not robots. We have thoughts and ideas.
    -Trust your employees. Micromanagement is part of the culture.
    -Empower your employees.

    Pros

    It's marginally better than being unemployed

    Cons

    - Zero administrator support when students misbehave
    - Smug administrators with bloated salaries who do nothing to enhance the quality of the learning environment, but who instead spend most of their time harassing employees and in worthless meetings
    - Getting ripped off on your pay because the Payroll department makes lots of "mistakes" (interestingly, those mistakes are always in the District's favor)

    Good pay. President, Chancellor and other leaders do a good job inspiring, motivating, and encouraging support for students (our clientele).

    The atmosphere and my coworkers are all wonderful to work with. Knowing my duties makes my job fun and keeps my mind occupied.

    Cons

    I am only part time, and there are times when there is just not enough work to keep me busy. I like to stay busy and always know that there is something to do.
