    Pros

So much I have to say. Lenient management and thorough. It was fun being trained by Javier.

    Cons

High turnover rate, but it was not always due to management. Some coworkers were not the best.

    Advice to Management

Keep a good eye on your workers! You can catch the bad eggs a lot sooner.

I have been working at San Diego County Credit Union full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Easy to make sales of you have a good management team, have lots of different flexible schedules

    Cons

Not a lot of room for advancement, pay for the industry needs to be higher. Required to do a lot for minimum pay. Need updated software in every branch.

    Advice to Management

I have pretty great managers but I have worked with several others who really need to be looked at and should not be anywhere near the customer service industry. When your a good manger you
Are supportive of your employees and help them grow. A lot of the mangers here try to put themselves on a pedestal.

I worked at San Diego County Credit Union full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Decent company culture overall
    -Competitive compensation for the area
-Lots of opportunity for advancement if you're decent at your job
-Lots of training classes available, however, they're all very basic and repetitive if you have any previous experience

    Cons

The company culture is great in theory, but in reality it's dictated by management on a branch and regional level. There is a heavy sales culture at SDCCU and if you're in a slower branch there WILL be times where you have to choose between doing what's right for the members and hitting your goals. Of course it's possible to do both, and management will act like they really care about the members, but it's interesting how much more they "care" when it's the end of the month and the branch is behind on goals...That being said, there are some great managers and plenty of amazing people that work at SDCCU, people that truly do care. Everyone will have a slightly different experience, but I only recommend SDCCU if you find the right branch/situation. Good luck!

    Advice to Management

There really just needs to be better training FOR management. Different people need to be managed in different ways, so don't try to force people to behave the same way you do. Also, I noticed a lot of the "faults" of branch management stem from the pressure they're feeling from regional management. I'd try to find a way to regulate the culture that is being created by regionals and branch managers.

    Pros

fast growing company, you get a chance to move up quickly.

    Cons

Their is a lot of butt kissing, if you are under the wrong management they will mess you up quickly. Do not tell HR your problems, they tell you they will keep it a secret but they really don't! They will tell your management everything and your manager will in turn retaliate! I have watched a lot of hard working people, people that really care about the company and members get fired or are forced to quit because of this. So sad

    Advice to Management

The company needs to pay more attention to the managers, most of them do whatever they want and they really don't care for the company! The junior staff are the face of the company, the ones that talk to the members smile at them. They are the reason why members come back, but when management treats them like animals they quit! And we all end up at mission fed! I loved and enjoyed working for this credit union, and I loved the members but I had to quit I was not ready for the games management plays.

I have been working at San Diego County Credit Union full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Free luncheons almost every month
    Lots of different locations
Admin building is very nice; most branches are kept clean and up to date
Easy to promote; if you work hard and pay attention to detail you could get promoted every 6 months.

    Cons

Sales have become just like the big banks, possibly even worse! Executive mgmt only cares about growing the business revenue and less about how the branches operate or what management is doing. Many branch managers don't care about their employees and only want sales. They don't take the time to train them or better them, instead they make them do all their work while they sit in their offices not doing much.
Growing in branches but lacking in infrastructure; the company has expanded quickly but has not hired enough staff (internal and external) to cover the growing amount of branches.
Inconsistency and lack of training for both branch staff and internal department.
Lack of communication! There is a big disconnect between back office departments and branches.
Job descriptions are thrown out the window and most of the time you will be doing much more than what you originally thought you were applying for; sometimes even take work from other departments because they are understaffed.
Human Resources is bias towards management and will not listen to branch staff about serious issues. Also, if you report something to HR it is NOT anonymous.

    Advice to Management

Train the staff! Communicate fully! If everyone is on the same page it makes for a much more efficient business model. Also, ease up on the sales pressure and the branch staff will not make so many operational mistakes that could cost the credit union big in the future. Lastly, stop hiring managers that don't care, don't want to be there, or don't put in the effort it takes to be a good manager.

    "Great company"

    Pros

Plenty of growth and opportunity and they have worked hard to be competitive amongst other financial institutions in regards to wages.

    Cons

Many staffing challenges and not enough floating staff to accommodate all the openings. The call center needs to double in employees as well now that the number of branches has increased.
