    Pros

Great benefits. Amazing colleagues who are mission driven. Incredibly important work. Excellent environment for learning. Opportunity to really make a difference.

    Cons

When working for such a large organization it can be challenging to make changes and respond quickly to emerging trends and technological advances. Politics involved can be disheartening.

    Advice to Management

Respect your staff by being willing to hear what they have to say. Go directly to the people who do the work rather relying in inner circle.

    Pros

    Dedicated clinicians devoted to patients.

    Cons

No advancement possible. Advancement totally based on length of service not merit. No accountability. Operating in ancient IT environment. Left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Employees regularly hide to get out of work and count down the days until retirement.

    Advice to Management

If you are truly trying to adopt the LEAN philosophy, gather those around your who merit advancement and who truly believe in your mission.

I have been working at San Francisco Department of Public Health full-time

    Pros

My colleagues are always willing to help in times of need and they keep it so positive. All other staff are friendly and very open to suggestions involving anything work related. This is a great setting to begin a career as well as staying on-board for full time commitment! Being at SFDPH has opened my eyes to bettering the Bay Area community and staying involved outside of the workplace.

    Cons

None that I can attest to.

I have been working at San Francisco Department of Public Health full-time

    Pros

Good salary, an unbeatable pension and great job security (once you have a bit of seniority). The majority of my coworkers are friendly and helpful.

    Cons

The bureaucracy is a nightmare. Getting simple purchases done is way harder than it needs to be, and you usually end up taking on a lot of administrative tasks yourself. Also, forget the usual SF perks of rolling into work whenever you please and working from home when you want. This is an old school, 8 to 5 job.
