I have been working at San Francisco Health Plan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Smart, hard-working co-workers
Executive leadership cares about how they are perceived by employees
Lots of opportunity for learning and developing skills
Many departments have positive feeling; employees happy/positive in most departments
Hard work, innovation rewarded in most departments
    Executive Team stable
Strong, positive Directors team has emerged in the past 3 years
Managers in most departments given a lot of support and training
SFHP's policies are congruent with the mission of the organization: leadership and associates genuinely care about the welfare of Medi-Cal recipients in SF County

    Cons

During periods of rapid expansion, I have seen some leaders communicate in ways that are damaging to the culture--blaming, pointing fingers, etc. Unfortunately, that has resulted in a loss of some talent. However, I have observed that both the Executive Team and Directors Team have put a lot of energy into changing the organizational culture by learning to model collegial, productive communication to the managers and associates.

    Advice to Management

The emphasis on improving organizational culture is working. Please continue the effort.

I worked at San Francisco Health Plan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Once this was a tiny, field based position with expert clinicians in the fields of mental health and medical health.

    Cons

    Medical/clinical support and supervision evaporated.
Social worker now supervises nurses. Not ok, at all.
Nursing profession treated like joke by social workers.

They went from CMCM w a 15 case max to now wanting 1 nurse to carry 150 cases for half the salary.

    RUN don't walk

    Advice to Management

Get your stuff together. Put it together. Get it all together, and put it in a backpack, all your stuff, so it's together. And if you gotta take it somewhere, take it somewhere. You know? Take it to the stuff store and sell it. Or put it in a stuff museum, I don't care what you do, you just gotta get it together.

    Get your stuff together.

And this CM position should be under UM RN control.

I have been working at San Francisco Health Plan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Super benefits, generous PTO. People are amazing, very positive and supporting.

    Cons

Hard to get a promotion, there are many unspoken rules. I would say it reminds me about government job.

    Advice to Management

Orgnize more corporate events for all departments, something outside if the office would be greatly appreciated by all employees

I have been working at San Francisco Health Plan full-time

    Pros

Mission is good and the benefits are good. There are a lot of great people who are smart and want to contribute to the mission.

    Cons

Most of the executives are challenging and it seems like a lot of people in the organization know that the executives have issues with each other.

    Pros

excellent benefits, generous PTO, great location and environment

    Cons

Work environment is fun and hard-working - but also very meeting heavy so staying organized is important.

    Advice to Management

Bring salaries up for the lower tiers to be in-line with cost of living in and around SF.

    Pros

None. If you want to experience how noncompetitive executives run the IT department, this is the place

    Cons

IT department is run by non IT executive. They have no clue how IT works. No Vision, No direction, No roadmap. Operating on day to day basis. All focus on people management. Never saw CTO focussing that much on people management. I do not approve CTO as CTO material. She acts more like a supervisor. Management by intimidation.

    Advice to Management

Please bring some IT people to run the IT department. Focus on long term plan

I have been working at San Francisco Health Plan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good Financial District location close to Bart, shopping and dining. Company says the right things and maybe is even trying to do the right things but it doesn't always hit the mark. Depending on your department, there are some nice people. Some flexibility to work from home but limited to 1 day per week depending on your manager. Company seems to be doing well financially.

    Cons

Company tries to act like a startup in culture but it falls flat. Company is between a small company and a midsized so they try to create that young hip vibe but the work isn't cool and the people don't embrace that culture. Picture your grandparents trying to be cool. Can be a tough place to work depending on your department. Not everyone works equally hard or held to same standards even though that's what they preach. Can feel phony.

    Advice to Management

Instill same standards across all departments.

I have been working at San Francisco Health Plan full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Generous amount of PTOs, pension and health benefits
    - Close distance to Bart
    - Work here as long as you want. Unless you have really poor performance, otherwise you won't get fired

    Cons

    - No career development, well *maybe* if you worked there for over 10 years then you can eventually become a manager or supervisor. Favoritism over performance.
    - Office politics (pretty much everywhere)
    - Micro-management, especially in the Customer Service department
    - Hostile working environment

    Advice to Management

Is there even a management? This place is a joke.

I have been working at San Francisco Health Plan full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay and benefits package are top-notch, great growth potential, coworkers are very knowledgeable and skilled. Also, the office is very inviting, modern, and centrally located.

    Cons

Sometimes I feel like SFHP is still in the growing stages and still operates somewhat like a start-up.
