    Positive Outlook

I have been working at San Francisco Public Works full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Every bureau is understaffed, so there are tons of opportunities to really make a difference. Benefits are quite good, especially if you have a spouse who needs health insurance.

    Cons

Work is often very intense. Funds for staff are limited, so most folks have a wide, varied, and interesting set of responsibilities and specialties, often more than they can handle, and at lower pay than most private companies would pay.

I worked at San Francisco Public Works for less than a year

    Pros

Working here is a great start and will open tons of doors for you as well as teach you construction management essentials

    Cons

The pace is kind of low not because of them but because of the city rules

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at San Francisco Public Works for less than a year

    Pros

I liked all the connections I was able to make with other professionals at my workplace. I work at the BSM satellite office which is at the Department of Building Inspection, and so I work right around the fire department, building department, public utilities commission and planning department. It really felt like the department valued our presence as interns.

    Cons

I wish I'd had a little more diversity in my tasks since I ended up working the counter almost the whole time. It was good in that I was useful in a work sense, but didn't learn as many roles as would be ideal for an intern.

I have been working at San Francisco Public Works full-time

    Pros

The best benefits that you can ask for; Health, Pension, 457b (optional), Vacation, Sick, Floating Holidays, Holidays, etc.

    Cons

Hard to climb if you don't have the right degree. In my case, an engineering degree. I have over 8 years of experience but it doesn't matter unless you have the right degree.
