I have been working at San Jacinto College (More than a year)

    Pros

My boss is a wonderful person! Each semester you are given a choice on what classes you want to teach in a "first come, first serve" basis. I love the flexibility. You also have the choice from semester to semester if you want to teach so it is not hard to take time off in the event that you may have "life issues" to deal with.

    Cons

As an adjunct there are no guarantees that you will teach a course from one semester to the next but that due to factors that cannot be controlled. I have not seen any posting for full-time teaching positions in the two years I have been employed at San Jac.

    Pros

Provides a nice job while attending the college for some extra money.

    Cons

Complaints about members of staff who are toxic to the work environment seem to be ignored.

    Advice to Management

Allow disciplinary actions, or at a minimum, listen to your employees when they report bad behavior in other employees.

    Pros

Pay is good, we have good benefits, and life there is at a fast pace, in everything we do,because we have to get the students ready for the real world. And that in itself is a job too but enjoyable.

    Cons

Part time, fast pace and you really don't get very personal with anyone.

I have been working at San Jacinto College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people you are working with are very nice and helpful. You get to meet a lot of good people. working as a tutor helps you keep you knowledge fresh in you mind if you care.

    Cons

The difficult part working as a tutor is to have the patience. sometimes you just want to give on some students just because not matter how well you explain something to them, they won't understand.

    Advice to Management

get some more tutor in finite math, accounting and statistic cause we do have a lot of students coming over for help.

I have been working at San Jacinto College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I have worked with San Jacinto College for going on three years. I have always felt supported by my department chairs and fellow professors. The students have several resources to aid them in their success and the staff have great professional development opportunities. Whenever I had a question as a new adjunct instructor, I had an immediate response from my supervisors. Professional communication could not be better.

    Cons

You will be working with a huge learning curve. Establish that rapport with your students from day one and you will have more kids passing your class.

    Advice to Management

Focus on expanding grant expenditures for more vertical alignment collaboration with the ISDs. Writing skills among our first year students is waning. The Houston Pathways Initiative has created some wonderful partnerships and funding is needed to continue such progressive work.

I worked at San Jacinto College (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Everyone on campus is there for the students and their success. It is a great place to work. The administration is open to trying new ideas and methods. Always innovative.

    Cons

There are really no downsides. Everyone has the opportunity to participate on committees and give input. The administration stays close to the needs of the students and instructors.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work
