    Negative Outlook

I worked at San Joaquin General Hospital part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good for gaining experience
    Better than being unemployed
Employees generally get along well with each other
Plenty of hours available for part-time and per diem employees

    Cons

    Outdated work environment and mentality
    Low, non-competitive wages
    Unbalanced and inconsistent work schedules
    High attrition
    Poor employee attendance
    Favoritism
    Long, stressful shifts
Bad attitudes from negative employees who have been there too long
No salary negotiation at time of job offer
    Lack of professionalism from management

    Advice to Management

Be organized and professional during the interview and/or hiring process. If a candidate wasn't chosen for a position they interviewed for and they don't answer at the time of your calling them, just leave a message stating that, and move on. Don't go the unnecessary, misleading and passive-aggressive route by playing phone tag and asking for a call-back. That wastes time and creates false hope.
Pay employees according to their skills and experience, pay them what they are worth. Do not low-ball them by automatically starting them at the bottom of the pay scale. Make the wages more competitive to reduce turnover.
Look past the need for coverage during times of being short-staffed. Understand that the employees who constantly work overtime, double shifts and cover sick calls are tired and overworked. Respect their rest and recovery time and don't disturb them on their much-needed and well-deserved days off.
