I worked at San Joaquin Valley College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The campus is open Monday thru Friday, so you don’t have to work weekend schedules. Office setting and air conditioned offices and classrooms.

    Cons

Does not have room for promotions, lots of turn overs, private company so it can terminate your position at any time for any reason.

    Advice to Management

    Invest in your employees.

I have been working at San Joaquin Valley College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    SJVC cares about the students.

    Cons

Institution is going through a severe right-sizing movement and has for the last three years. Over 150 jobs lost.

    Advice to Management

Keep employees in the loop. Frustration and fear are of top concerns with employees. Feel like management is lying to them and can't be trusted.

I have been working at San Joaquin Valley College full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you stay on the "good side" of management, you were able to advance. Even if your education and credentials did not meet the state requirement. Medical and Dental Benefits - Wait! Isn't it now required of employers? Guess that pro must be reneged.

    Cons

One word - Nepotism, from the campus level to the castle in the sky, also known as corporate. Advisor are expected to support any student that wants to enroll in an accredited institution. But admitting students that are read at a 4th grade level is unethical and an example of the college being money and numbers driven.

    Advice to Management

SJVC use to be a respected institution. It's sad that student success is no longer the focus. I understand that SJVC is a for profit college but that does not mean that students should be taken advantage of. Robert and Shirley Perry, open your eyes and see what is happening to your legacy. You once had dedicated employees that produced but were ridiculed, bullied and threatened on a daily basis that it became an unbearable environment. Students refer other students, when an advisor suddenly disappears, they no longer trust the institution. An employee is unable to go to corporate with a complaint because revenge from management will soon follow. Finally, my advice, look at your revenue and when it dropped, you need to restructure from the top down. It's only a matter of time before the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education comes after you.
