I have been working at San José State University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Live in the Bay Area

    Cons

You won't have any time to enjoy your life in the Bay Area, because we are overworked and underpaid. Furthermore, the administrators are corrupt and treat their workers very badly.

I have been working at San José State University for less than a year

    Pros

Great job structure and fun atmosphere. Fac and staff are very helpful to student employees at state.

    Cons

I would caution students from taking on the same class as they are assisting at the same time. This can create a bit of an ethical issue down the road.

I worked at San José State University full-time

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity for self direction. The campus is nicely located in San Jose, and hours are very flexible and include summers off.

    Cons

Terrible pay, little recognition for achievement, especially with junior faculty. Promotion is archaic, and requires physical preparation of a thick dossier.

I have been working at San José State University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It is located in the downtonw San Jose and it is relatively safe place.

    Cons

Salary for assitant professor is humiliating. Absolute value would be similar to other schools but if you consider living expences of Bay Area, it is very close to the poverty level. If you do not have anyone who are making additional money in your familly,, you will not be able to sustain your family with the salary that SJSU provides.
