I worked at San José State University part-time

    Pros

Great Vibe, surrounded by people who care about you and are there to help you. I love working here. At times it feels a bit stagnant, but a great place to work overall. Very close to student housing so no need to commute for hours on end! Possibilities to move up quickly.

    Cons

A bit stagnant. Higher up staff can be a bit slow to react and interact. Minimum wage for a part time position.

    Advice to Management

    Be faster and more enthusiastic.

I worked at San José State University as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was able to have a flexible schedule and work whenever and wherever I wanted. As I got better at researching content and establishing a network, I was able to generate some of my own content ideas.

    Cons

Over the course of my work at the School of Information, I went through three different editors and worked occasionally throughout with a fourth person. This was good for developing a variety of skills and working with several different styles of editing and communication. For some people, I think this may feel inconsistent and disruptive. I was fine with it.

    Advice to Management

The editors, even as they change, should make sure the iStudent Blog really has a distinct voice and purpose depending on the writer. I think the writing style should be unique to the writer. In other words, I didn't copy my predecessor and my replacement shouldn't try to sound like me. ;)
