    Pros

great campus aesthetically and grounds are nice for city college.

Lack of upper management support and consistent lack of respect for roles and responsibilities by union and other constituency groups.

    Advice to Management

    Support the retention of management

    Negative Outlook

I worked at San Jose City College (More than a year)

    Pros

Days off are great as it is a school

    Cons

Union control of the campus workers and faculty is horrific. The students suffer, the facilities are poorly keep up, No campus security readily available, and while the Board and management overlook the problems students don't and they leave for other colleges. If it does not change and make positive improvements to move it forward in establishing a clean safe modern educational college it will again be placed on probation. Try to find a clean working water fountain.

This restriction unions place on the college of SJCC and Evergreen wastes Tax payers dollars and force great educators to leave. This is a trade school and not a college..

Ask home many presidents have come through in 5 years ?

    Advice to Management

Find a way to DUMP the unions, There time has come and gone many years ago the the California Workers unions. While the teacher/workers union appears strong it is outdated on non responsive to the needs of the Silicon valley. The business of education is to hire people that really care about the students learning instead wasting time and money unions demands. Remember what happen Heald or what happen to the auto industry in Detroit., Don't forget that state educational schools can be closed for not having enough students.

I worked at San Jose City College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Provides educational opportunities to students who are unprepared for college and/or have little income.
    Has many dedicated employees.

    Cons

Desires of administrators, faculty, and staff too often come before the needs of students.
    Lots of nasty politics.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on your next position and do what's best for students, not what's best for employees. Clean up the political quagmire.

    Pros

Great opportunity to gain service oriented skills. Opportunity for training in data management.

    Cons

Poor management all the way to the top. While good managers and team leaders do exist at SJCC they are few and far between.

    Advice to Management

Take a thorough evaluation and get rid of notoriously grouchy and unhelpful staff!!
