I worked at San Mateo County full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dedication by fellow employees to the work was admirable and inspiring at times.

    Cons

Elected official and senior management have serious trust issues with employees of all levels. Micromanagement doesn't begin to describe their management style. You are often kept out of the loop on important issues.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees to do the job you are paying them to do. Trust their expertise. Support them.

I have been working at San Mateo County full-time

    Pros

The salary is high, the Overtime is almost guaranteed, the benefits are very good

    Cons

Long hours, little appreciation of staff, no positive reinforcement, politicized atmosphere, no supportive services for staff, most staff have resorted to alternate methods to cope (alcohol, pills, substance use).

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to staff. If the staff are emotionally healthy, then they are better able to serve the families under their care. Ignore the staff turmoil and the results for the families will be catastrophic

    Pros

Personable management and coworkers, great and brilliant team of regulators to gain knowledge from. Good benefits. People know how to utilize proper channels of communication. Company encourages team building and solidarity among employees.
