I worked at SanDisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The technology is pretty interesting and most engineers really want to succeed. The people for the most part work well even under huge workload.

    Cons

Management does a very poor job in retaining good employees. Politics and power struggles make some teams very dysfunctional. Training and professional development are almost non existent.

    Advice to Management

Focus on creating effective teams, stop with back-stabbing and power struggle. Improve interface with the factory.

I worked at SanDisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Few pros, but salary and bonus structure is competitive.

    Cons

Leadership strategies are not shared throughout the teams, poor cross functional team work, many employees/managers withhold information to get ahead and step over people. No work-life balance very common to see people working in the office past 8pm daily or working 10-14+ hours a day.

I worked at SanDisk full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Had some nice employee interaction activities.
    Good brand image outside.

    Cons

Hard work doesn't pay off. No Appreciation. But if you are great with your boss, you'll be considered for promotion. Bottom line, they boast of zero tolerance to favoritism but that's just an eyewash. Reality is complete opposite.
HR department is very relaxed , they don't respond to your Immigration needs in a professional timely manner.
Referral system is broken. Just there for show off. Employees are easily replaceable. Talent is not regarded.
    Very less opportunities for growth.
With WD Merger, they've drawn the last straw.

    Advice to Management

Coach your Managers to focus on their employee growth and not self growth. Employees are humans , stop treating them like machines.

I worked at SanDisk as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Could be exciting corporate culture built around idea of memory - what means more to people?! I met some really bright, talented, generous professionals - most of whom have left. Shame so many opportunities and really great people lost.

    Cons

Disappointing leadership, at least on operations side. Culture of escalation and punitive, unapproachable managers, results in distrust among business units and peers, unnecessary anxiety, ineffeciency and huge turnover.

    Advice to Management

See "pros" above. You have opportunity to do something really special, exciting here. Maybe acquiring company will reward better foresight, vision, leadership.

    Pros

Pay is pretty decent and bonuses are pretty good. Bonuses are only guaranteed if company does well. The gym is really nice. Can have flex work life balance depending on your boss.

    Cons

Past acquisitions have been a complete disaster. Upper management does not know what they are doing. They tend to play more politics than actually trying to execute. Strategy going forward is interesting but the execution is lacking. Not top notch caliber talent at the company. Lot of politics at the company that impedes people from getting things done and executing.

    Advice to Management

Tons of politics at the company that prevent it from being successful. People are incentivized to make up answers to things when they don't know. Lot of turnover. People are leaving in droves right now. Need to change the culture in order to keep the best people.

I have been working at SanDisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

3 weeks vacation to start, but have to take 5 days PTO during Christmas closure. No sick days. Free gym, cheap food. Nice campus

    Cons

Six re-orgs in a year. 2 layoffs. Products launched months before actually ready, firmware changes after customer quals. Unrealistic sales quotas. Management is out of touch with reality.

    Advice to Management

Re-focus the product lines, hire people that actually execute.

I have been working at SanDisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Salary is pretty good as long as you know how to negotiate when you get the offer
    - Bonus plan is good. Generally, it is 15% of your annual salary
    - Work hour is pretty flexible
    - Onsite cafe (NOT free) and gym
    - SanDisk is one the few remaining sizable Flash player out there
    - Plenty of food choices nearby

    Cons

    - Extremely destructive politic. It actually bring office politic to a whole new level.
    - No sick days
    - "Mandatory" "volunteer" services
    - Unusual number of Indian in top management and engineering positions. Sometimes, it make you feel like you are working in India for companies like Tata, HCL or Intel
    - Management has no measurable long term vision. The CFO Judy keep saying wall street this and wall street that during all hands. Seriously, who is running the show at SanDisk? Those Wall Street analysts or YOU?
    - Excessive ego in those with few talent
    - Some managers have no idea how to write a professional email.
    - InfiniFlash is way too expansive, therefore there is not many customers paying for it --> not enough revenue.
    - Trying to complete with Facebook's OCP business. Failed once... Not sure how it goes the 2nd time around...
    - Tons of great people left before, during, and after the 5% layoff. Unfortunately, those stupid management who made the wrong decision still happily employed at SanDisk and will continue to drive SanDisk to the ground.

    Advice to Management

    - Diversify your C-Level team
    - Sick days for all employee
    - Diversify your Enterprise storage product lines. 3U, 512TB based InfiniFlash is NOT enough.

I worked at SanDisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some interesting perks (free cell phone)

    Cons

A lot of internal politics and infighting. Every quarter is a fight for survival where you or your entire BU can be cut at any time. The large ego of employees makes it hard to exchange ideas and information, especially to add suggestions to product design. Not a good place for young and inexperienced employees at all. There is no employee training or mentoring in some groups. Said workplace attitude makes it very hard to get someone to sit down and teach you anything for both time constraint reasons as well as political reasons (if you learn anything, you might put someone else out of the job). Very long hours of boring, repetitive grunt-work with no appreciation. You can work weekends (12 hours a day, Saturday and Sunday) for months at a time just to meet the very badly defined project timelines.

    Advice to Management

Replace everyone; commit to a good plan.
