I have been working at SanDisk full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Low pressure, good place as a last job before retirement (if not hit by layoff first.... Western digital is known for its layoff)

    Cons

Politics above technical. Being good at politics and in the right circle is more important than having good skills and contribution.

    Advice to Management

    Use the right person

I worked at SanDisk full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

SanDisk/WD directs a lot of focus on culture/values and work-life balance. Not quite right yet, but headed in the right direction.

    Cons

Integration process has been complicated and sometimes creates twice as much work than previous processes causing employee confusion and frustration.

    Pros

leader in flash technologies with fab. good location and facility. Nice gym, free coffee and oatmeal breakfast.

    Cons

unable to expand to other areas and up the stack. unfair practices in promoting people and hiring. bad health plan and IT.

    Advice to Management

bring people who have real experience and tracking record for the new growth areas. Do not bring people learning on the job

I have been working at SanDisk as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Works with (mostly) current technologies; ability to create new designs without too much bureaucracy. Decent food choices.

    Cons

Work life balance not managed in some teams. Other teams seem OK. Processes could see some improvement and standardization.

    Advice to Management

I think if they focus on above cons, most of the employees will be happy to work/accomplish more.

I worked at SanDisk (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many resources shared with employees. Recognition of job well done. Compensation levels were typically very generous.

    Cons

Lack of cooperation between business units. Insufficient accountability of performance.

    Advice to Management

SanDisk was recently acquired by Western Digital, so it is a vastly different company at this time. The challenge for the org is the integration of solid state storage and NAND flash manufacturing into a traditional hard disk drive company.

    Pros

Fast paced company where you are never bored.

    Cons

Very aggressive personalities. Employees seem to thrive on conflict and love to argue.

    Advice to Management

Spend time working on unifying your employees and focus on your competitors instead of creating competition with your own company.

    "Chaotic"

    Pros

There are some pretty awesome perks, but this varies from site to site. Some sites have Gyms others have cafeterias. Actually, the cafeteria is why I stay.

    Cons

Clear communication about what needs to be done and when would be really nice.
Roles are not clear and this causes confusion, and churning around trying to figure out who's supposed to do what.
At times I have been asked by management to do someone else's job, and when it is pointed out that it is someone else's job, they expect me to project manage the person whose job it is even though that is not my role.

    "OK"

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Nice people, quiet environment, full benefits for medical and dental. Gym on campus.

    Cons

Not open with a work at home, so there is not much of a work-life balance. Company is ran like its still in the 2000s.
