    Cons

As a semiconductor company, I think it's not really good for employee who wants to continue the career as a software enginerr

    Advice to Management

I don't have any advice to the management, I think SanDisk did good enough as in it's own area.

I have been working at SanDisk full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good people to work with for the most part and good facilities. Good salary and decent benefits.

    Cons

Too much turnover in Marketing teams has caused product roadmaps to be unrealistic. Too many sales people who do not contribute.

    Advice to Management

Don't go through with the WD deal.

I worked at SanDisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Few pros, but salary and bonus structure is competitive.

    Cons

Leadership strategies are not shared throughout the teams, poor cross functional team work, many employees/managers withhold information to get ahead and step over people. No work-life balance very common to see people working in the office past 8pm daily or working 10-14+ hours a day.

I have been working at SanDisk (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Strong culture of innovation, think different

    Cons

long work hours, process not always clear cut and correct, new leaders hired from outside and not promoted inside

    Advice to Management

Need to drive technology leadership, not strategic leadership. SanDisk used to innovate in NAND but now is a laggard

I have been working at SanDisk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Used to have good benefits and culture. Can be a good learning career if the employee is active and aggressive. Working environment is well maintained, plus employer sponsored free cell phone. Good exposure to both engineering R&D and mass production systems.

    Cons

What made SanDisk great is starting to fade away and SanDisk is becoming more average. People are very conservative and everyone is rather protecting the status quo than taking a risk of making real changes for the benefits of being more efficient.
SanDisk typically follows a 3 year up/down cycle and right now it is in the down phase. One year of free dinner every evening can be followed by another without a single one. Not sure if there will be another up phase since it is being acquired by WD.
Management is rigid with lots of politics. The management team is not adapted to technology changes and the business model isn't working out any more.

    Advice to Management

Allow newer and younger talents in the management team. Old way of doing business is not working anymore. I have seen a lot of engineering initiative taken by the management for the sole purposes of easier management but has nothing to help the engineers. These projects are mostly abandoned half way, which weaken the management teams credentials in micro management. Micro management can only create more work to engineers and managers, especially the managers are not that technically competent to start with.

I have been working at SanDisk full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Leading technology on NAND flash business. Good chance working with many talent engineers on different storage related projects.

    Cons

Management and marketing are weak. Consistently create and then cancel/postpone projects. Business vision need to be improved.

    Advice to Management

Flash and SSD are in uptrend, why sell the company if you really believe NAND has a brilliant future?
