I have been working at Sandler and Travis Trade Advisory Services full-time

    Pros

    - Great place to learn skills in Customs, International Trade Compliance, program management & gain strong Msoft Excel and Access DB skills. There seems to be no limitation to learning and skill advancement if given enough time.

    - Time off is generous
    - Casual atmosphere

    Cons

Career advancement could take several years to be considered for management; need to build extensive knowledge and experience to manage people and processes.

I worked at Sandler and Travis Trade Advisory Services full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Absolutely nothing. After almost 2 years of working there is Literally not a single thing I can think of.

    Cons

Absolutely everything. It is a total mess. The entire company is run completely backwards. Imagine all cars on a highway driving in reverse. Very predictably this will cause problems, but if you should ever say "Hey, your driving backwards, it's wrong, you should be driving forwards" you will create a major traffic jam as you try to get everyone driving the correct way. Ultimately you will fail, and they will revert to driving backwards again. The company motto is "Don't Question It" At STTAS 1+1 always equals 3. Absolutely no exceptions. If you ever say 1+1=2 then this company is definitely not for you.

    Advice to Management

To be completely honest, every single person in management needs to Resign en masse. It is just so horribly run. Complete top to bottom replacement.

    Pros

They have lots of open jobs. Always...

    Cons

Like being in High School all over again. Unless you are a teachers pet don't expect to grow in company.

    Advice to Management

The CEO and CFO need to open their eyes and really take a look at the company.

I have been working at Sandler and Travis Trade Advisory Services full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very generous PTO ~3 weeks at entry level
    Management is becoming more transparent
Culture has moved into a positive direction since I started. (Company planned events, time away from the desks to be able to get to know co-workers outside of their typical cliques)

    Cons

There seems to be some disconnect between qualities upper management looks for in promoting people, and who the middle managers actually promote.
Cliques are a big thing here
    Salary is subpar

    Pros

STTAS is fairly flexible. Good PTO, although everyone will say that.

    Cons

Too many to list. Others have captured nearly every one.

    Advice to Management

    Empathy goes a long way.

    Pros

Health Benefits, paid vacation time, company cook outs...the norm, but not too many perks beyond that.

    Cons

Too many promotions, unqualified staff in manager positions...They don't pay well unless you are of executive status. They are currently reducing the amount of personal space in order to cram more workers in to smaller areas, for greater revenue of course. Also, most new hires lately are right out of college so it may be difficult for the more seasoned folks to find their fit.

    Advice to Management

Reduce management and pick one to two people to oversee the departments. Don't give promotions just to add more workload without pay. That's just a glorified title.

I worked at Sandler and Travis Trade Advisory Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of very knowledgeable people in leadership positions from whom you can learn -- if you work under the right one(s). The industry is dynamic and relevant and the company is growing. They are in transition from small company mentality to corporate mentality. They are starting to act like a good company. They are one of the biggest in the business.

    Cons

There is a lot of stirring negativity and chaos. There is a lot of reactivity vs. proactivity. Retention is a minimal focus. It is difficult to trust the organization when promises are not kept, such as promotions and changes. There are fair amount of promotions based on tenure as opposed to merit. Employees are undervalued and not encouraged to make process improvements "because this is how it's always been done" in certain departments.

    Advice to Management

Please try harder to value employees and build morale. Invest in your employees. Make changes and positive morale will follow.
