I worked at Sandoz International (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall, Sandoz provides competitive compensation packages, great benefits and some of the best facilities in the industry. They are one of the top generics firms in the world, and over the last 10 years, has invested heavily in specialty generics, specifically, biosimilars and respiratory drugs. They are also big players in the FTF (first to file) arena, aggressively targeting Paragraph IV filings and have had some huge successes over the last decade. Generics are here to stay, and Sandoz will probably be around for a long time providing innovative, generic alternatives for patients at prices far below the brand.

    Cons

Sandoz, like many very large companies, is not as flexible and quick as a smaller firm would be. They tend to rely heavily on systems and controls, which, in itself, is a very good thing that will keep the company from committing critical mistakes. However, those same systems can inhibit reaction time to various issues, opportunities, and also reduces entrepreneurial spirit.

Another negative is related to the investor-driven optics. Every quarter there are numbers to be met and investors (especially institutional) to keep happy. But negative events happen, and this is where the problems begin. A negative event is anything that will negatively impact net sales and profit, like sales of a blockbuster drug falling off much more quickly than expected. This leads to cost cutting exercises to try (and usually fail) to meet the bottom line profit number. Trying to hit the number is a good thing. But sacrificing the future to varying degrees (through layoffs, consolidations, downsizing, etc.) is not. This has impacts to both the health of the company, as well as the perception from the outside world.

    Advice to Management

Every company must have a long term vision, and must strive to achieve the vision regardless of the challenges faced. So, unless a negative event is so catastrophic that the company's future is in the balance, Sandoz must stick to that plan despite encountering negative events. Do not sacrifice the future to meet short term numbers. It never works, and causes a lot of personal agony (layoffs) that just is not needed.

I have been working at Sandoz International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very welcoming employees. They have PTO and Holiday pay. Up and coming company, that plans to expand in the near future. The crew you work with is very close, like family even though it is a big crowd.

    Cons

Very fast pace. The work load is sometimes unbearable. They like to point fingers, and give blame. It seems everyone is pushed to compete against each other.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to take the time to thank their employees for always working at 110%. It seems the moral within the company is dropping at an alarming rate.

    Pros

The benefit package and salaries are good.

    Cons

This is not a family friendly environment; expect to work 10+ hours a day and get nothing done. Managers have no idea how to manage, organize, or help their employees. There is no desire to get with the times and use technology; wanting to make changes can get you fired. What little technology they do have they don't even know how to use right. 1 good FDA GMP audit could cause a lot of problems for this place.

    Advice to Management

Any supervisor or manager who's been there 10 or more years has to go!
