I have been working at Sandvine full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exposed to best of breed technologies in the networking, cloud, virtualization, SDN, mobile, etc. spaces
Always have opportunities to learn something new (though, one can decide not to learn - nobody will force you to do so).
A great place for independent thinkers/workers who like challenges.

I work for a team called CloudServices, and our culture is great.
It's a family oriented team with no competition between engineers.
I suspect many other teams are like this, but I cannot really speak on this confidently without first hand experience.

I've worked at IBM in the past, and I can say without a doubt that Sandvine is a much better place to work in.

    Cons

Some of the communication channels between Dev, TestEng, Documentation, Support could be improved. As a compensating factor for lack of proper channels to learn about products, etc., "interrupt an engineer whenever you wan't" becomes the norm (which, as every programmer knows, really affects productivity).
Alas, this is a minor point and a point that is being actively worked on.

    Advice to Management

Help lessen the "on demand" (interrupt based) context switches programmers can face :)

I have been working at Sandvine full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have been able to grow within the company, and have learned a lot in the process. Processes are now in place to help with work/life balance that weren't there before. The place keeps getting better over time.

    Cons

It is a challenging place to work for, where you constantly need to learn to just stay afloat. To me, it's part of the fun of being here.

    Advice to Management

Continue to thank and praise timely, and encourage people to grow. Sandvine needs to more and more act as one, and I see good signs that it is moving there.

    Pros

    - Become a leader in virtualization (NFV/SDN architecture) ... 1+ Tbps of NFV Performance
    - Solve complex and impossible problems with machine learning
    - Choose your programming language (C, C++, go-lang, python, ...)
    - Extremely smart people around you

    Cons

    - Inefficiencies is hurting the team
    - Not all the teams within Sandvine resonates on the same wave length with regards to vision and strategy

    Advice to Management

    Advice:

    - Solve the inffiencies - once this is solved, you bought
time (and $) to be innovative
    - Ensure technical leaders in Sandvine "stay" plugged into the solution all the way to the end (not just at requirement gathering)

I worked at Sandvine full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Highly automated environment. Sandvine's QA team tries to automate as much of its tasks as possible. Lots of brilliant people work in the QA team too (which was unexpected when I joined). Generally medium to low stress environment with an above average family-like atmosphere.

    Cons

Documentation could be less than perfect. You might have to talk to several people to fill in knowledge gaps while getting up to speed up on a team or new tasks.

    Advice to Management

    Better docs.

I have been working at Sandvine (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of long time loyalty here speaks volumes. Good work is rewarded and there are lots of perks. Management continues to make efforts to keep the team motivated, informed and happy. As workplaces go, it's tough to find better.

    Cons

Some silos are difficult to get out of in terms of opportunities. Not sure there's much to be done about hitting a career wall anywhere though.
