I have been working at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute full-time

    Pros

SBMRI has one of the best locations to work even though you will be inside 60hrs a week. The cafeteria workers are friendly and the food does the job. Parking is very easy and close at SBMRI.
SBMRI has adequate equipment to perform quality science. The security is reliable here as well.

    Cons

Don't spend more than 6 months here. Put it on your CV and move on. They took my best discoveries and I barely received an average salary. They will hold you hostage with the recommendation promise and exaggerate their power to publish. These are ubiquitous problems that are acute at SBMRI. Another paper mill where discovery is the exception to the rule.

    Advice to Management

At some point in order to be at the cutting edge of science and make meaningful discoveries management will need to Invest in the people not their cars.

I worked at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ii is an institute with great scientists, amazing group of core facilities and personnel and very safe, friendly, and encouraging work environment.

    Cons

Not many multidisciplinary lectures, institute is mainly focused on cancer biology and does not have a very active research students association.

    Advice to Management

The institute should organize frequent career guidance seminars. If the core facilities can give a 30 minute, once a month, short presentation about data analysis, it would be awesome. The institute can have a bigger lecture hall and should invite speakers from diverse fields, basic and applied.
