I worked at Sanofi Genzyme as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Willingness to hire straight out of college

    Cons

At no point during the interview or application process was it made clear that the job I was applying for was a temporary contract position. After I agreed to the contract with the understanding I would eventually be hired full time it became evident that my temporary contract would just be renewed indefinitely, leaving me with less pay and fewer benefits than full time employees who worked less than I did.

    Advice to Management

Be straightforward with your temporary hiring policies.

I worked at Sanofi Genzyme full-time

    Pros

Benefits are amazing. Three weeks vacation without an opportunity to earn more the longer you work there.

    Cons

Very stressful and competitive workplace environment. Expected to work long hours. performance reviews are designed to pick apart employee and focus on the negative instead of rewarding the positive.

    Advice to Management

Redesign the performance review process and encourage employees to use their vacation days. Not using vacation time should not be a badge of honor. Instead of dwelling on the negative, reward the positive. Encourage people to work as a team instead of against each other. Don't be so reactionary and last minute with everything. Install better business planning and be more proactive so people don't feel like they are always in some sort of competitive race to keep their job.

I worked at Sanofi Genzyme as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sometimes I would get paid to just sit at my computer and do almost nothing all day. There were some nice people who really reached out to me and tried to teach me new things pretty much just to involve me and for my own benefit. My supervisor was bad at giving me tasks and showing me things, but the other people were nice.

    Cons

I felt like I didn't know what to do but wash glassware sometimes. The lab was a disorganized mess. My manager was awkward. I was told to participate in meetings where I was completely irrelevant. The other managers would ask me strange questions that made me uncomfortable, like "do you like your manager? are you sure?..." and just stare at me.

    Advice to Management

Give more directions to the lab technicians you hire. Don't make them sit in meetings with the rest of the MIT phds. It's humiliating.

I worked at Sanofi Genzyme (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good employee benefits. Good average salary and good people

    Cons

Favoritism, laziness, no accountability, management doesn't care about employees. Management only cares about their friends and favorites. Promotions given to the same people or favorites. Communication is horrible between departments.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites. Respect all your employees equally and promote open and honest communication. Listen to your employees.
