I have been working at Santa Clara Family Health Plan (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great experience in working with members in the SCC community with their medical needs and accessing their medical care through their State of CA Medi-Cal benefits.
Getting to know the system in managed health care.

    Cons

Micro Managed. Lots of favoritism. No room for career progression.
currently in process of getting their first Union contract through SEIU 521,
Which was initiated and organized by a few Senior Reps of the company to assist the entire organization to career fairness, equality and Transparency.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget where you came from and how you got to where you are at.
The organization has plenty of very well qualified candidates for internal promotions.
As Management you want the employees to progress in the profession. Help them exceed!!!

    Raises are not good
Performance reviews slaughter some of the employees, instead of dinging the employees the company should retrain them or offer them help in weak areas

    Advice to Management

Listen to the call center, they know the clients more than management does

Offer bonuses (we do live in the bay area)

    Recognize good work

I have been working at Santa Clara Family Health Plan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - The new management is moving in the right direction.
    - It's nice to have consultants that are willing to handle project assignments directly instead of just offering guidance.
    - The wide scope of tasks and assignments provide great varied experience.

    Cons

    - Forced into membership with the local SEIU union.

    Advice to Management

    - Distribute and monitor people's workloads a bit better

I worked at Santa Clara Family Health Plan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

not very many. The place is failing.

    Cons

CEO does not have a good idea of what is going on in the plan bc the consultant (interim COO) isn't straight forward with her. No way that place will pass an audit. The consultant COO works part time and has never dealt with a duals plan. CEO seems to run from problems. the two problem VP's quit this past year so that was a plus but Fluidedge needs to go.

    Advice to Management

CEO has put too much trust in her consultant friend. Stop running from problems and fix them.

    Pros

Casual dress except for formal meetings
Good for learning the County Systems

    Cons

Pay raises are low , no bonuses for good performance
Reassign you without warning to another position
Management not good at communicating any changes until they actually happen (after the fact)
Not enough recognition of a job well done, quick to point out what you aren't doing
