    Pros

Caring and flexible atmosphere. Pays on time and don't have to wait for paycheck.

    Cons

Can't find anything mentioning that would affect this review.

I worked at Santa Clara Valley Water part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Camaraderie, sense of working together towards goals, diverse workforce. Competent managers. Good benefits through some contract employers.

    Cons

As a temp, part-time, frustrating to go through training and learn new skills and help shape the direction of a program, only to be reminded that you are limited to fewer than 2,000 lifetime hours. Temp-to-perm is rare here.

    Advice to Management

    Consider more temp-to-perm positions.

    Pros

Salary was great, job security is stable, benefits were great, majority of staff for such a large agency are genuine

    Cons

Upper management decisions were always questioned, more than expected under qualified staff being promoted but then getting “lost” in their role keeping the less noticed quality employees from moving up as they deserve

    Advice to Management

Establish a closely thought out direction of success and stick with it rather than changing so often.

    Pros

The Pay and health benefits are excellent. Also, the work and life balance is great. And you can't forget about the pension. The people are also great to work with.

    Cons

The only thing I can think of is that the software used is outdated. Besides that I can't really think of any other cons.

I have been working at Santa Clara Valley Water full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great work, smart / good coworkers, plus great pay & benefits - health & pension & 9-8-9 schedules. Work is rewarding & good rotational opportunities are offered as training

    Cons

Over the top politics, unrealistic expectations & work load on staff to meet increasing & ever-demanding priorities set by management. Way too much red tape bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Change business culture & operations is a must to retain newer employees. reduce level of politics. Need a telecommute program for employees across all business functions, not just special case or limited to a handful of employees, or I’ll be out the door within less than 5 years onto my new career elsewhere where it’s more affordable. there’s competition for skilled labor & it’s a job seeker's market.

I have been working at Santa Clara Valley Water full-time

    Pros

The company believes in work life balance. I get every other Friday off. The work is exciting and the people are wonderful. We have great Wellness and Leadership Programs. The Districts invests in my development as an employee by offering educational reimbursement and other professional development opportunities.

    Cons

Work is challenging and exciting but I often can't finish all of my work each day because of the huge workload. I find myself getting one break a day if I am lucky.

    Advice to Management

First, congratulations to Norma our new CEO. My advice for managers is to slow down, trust your staff, and don't keep trying to make 10 hours of work into an 8 hour day. Learn to prioritize work better so you don't burn out staff. This is the only main issue. Other than the amount of work, the District is a great place to work.

I have been working at Santa Clara Valley Water full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits package. Most of my co-workers are great.

    Cons

Most employees aren't motivated to make process improvements.

    Advice to Management

Small decisons can make a huge impact. Focus on hiring based on value, not on seniority.
