I worked at Santee Cooper full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Small town company/family feel
    Relaxed environment
    Very slow work pace

    Cons

    Preferential hiring/Nepotism
    Good old boys club
VERY Clique environment and if you are not in it, you won't advance
    No direct development path
They care more about external candidates than internal

    Advice to Management

You are losing what made Santee Cooper a desirable place to work by trying to compete with the likes of Volvo and Boeing. Santee Cooper is great at being a small town company that cares about its employees. Use that instead of trying to be something your not. Utilize your internal talent because Santee Cooper invests in them. Stop nepotism and preferential hiring. In my time there I saw so many employees promoted or gain employment based on who they know and are friends with, not because they earned it.

I worked at Santee Cooper full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is great, as well as the hours. Once you're a permanent employee, the benefits are amazing and you get a yearly bonus.

    Cons

Drama, Very Political. if they see that you have potential to move up fast, they will fire you.70% of the people in the call center want to transfer to retail offices because of how poor management is. Everyone is related to each other.

    Advice to Management

Stop being dramatic. Picking favorites hurts everyone i.e. letting your favorites walk around doing nothing when there are 20 calls in the queue with 5 people on.
