I have been working at Santos full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good city to work and live in and a reasonable work-life balance can be achieved. Friendly staff.

    Cons

Many perks and social activities have been removed through the downturn and numerous rounds of redundancies have impacted morale in recent years

    Advice to Management

Ensure work life balance and social activities are promoted to boost morale during a tough time for the company and the industry.

I have been working at Santos full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some excellent people here, the teamwork in some areas is phenomenal.

    Cons

Two long years of lay offs and contraction has gutted capability from the company and made it a challenging working environment.

    Advice to Management

Have some fun. Innovation requires the freedom to be creative and play.

I worked at Santos full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Santos staff are well paid and have on site gym facilities.

    Cons

The industry downturn, which shows little signs of abating, has decimated Santos. I was lucky to be there through the growth phase early this decade, when many new.staff were enployed and money was plentiful. Unfortunately estimates of future oil prices were far too optimistic and went unchallenged, and the company virtually risked itz existence on 1 LNG megaproject. Now burdened by massive debt and have slashed a massive amount of jobs.

    Advice to Management

Temper self interest for the betterment of the company.

I have been working at Santos full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some few good people in there

    Cons

VP EHS Background: 15 years career experience, specialized in laws. This should say about all how Santos cares about its employees.

When working in subsurface space, there's no career evolution. Overcrowded leaders' levels, overcrowded technical people levels, bringing people from outside to take on GM and VP roles. No recognition on hard work, good results nor integrity, no career growth. Seniors are expected to support graduates to get to senior technical positions after a few years in Santos (and no other experience even less international). Main KPI is to "mentor" the say junior and graduates when you get retention of information and no empowerment from leaders in return.
Brisbane was a plutocracy in 2012-2015 where previous managers were only power-driven. Just look at the results. They got sacked recently. Thanks new CEO!
Hired massively people as employees (not contractors) in 2010-2012 to cover the first stage of Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas Project. Once this stage was completed in 2014, sacked equally massively the technical base. Managers involved got a gift basket with champagne and chocolate on their desks.

    Advice to Management

Stop pretend you care about the (remaining) employees' well-being. Good luck with the rest, people are watching you although not expecting much at this stage!

I have been working at Santos full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great work environment, good people

    Cons

Poor communication to staff, many of long-term senior people are poor leaders.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to be better at leading and enrolling the organisation. Invest in Perth/Brisbane office and be close to rest of industry, close Adelaide.
