Pros
A good CSR scheme, and some very lovely and talented people in the company that sadly are often overlooked and not very well taken care of.
Cons
I joined Sapphire when it was a much smaller company, and it was a great place to work. Talent was not only recognised, it was nurtured, and success was encouraged and rewarded. Sadly whilst the growth of the business benefited those who stood to profit from it most, it killed what was a great company spirit, and what made it great in the first place seems to have been forgotten. It became too corporate, where the customer first ethos only applied where the customer had significant sums of money to part with, for what became an average quality of service. The rise of an “in-crowd” that gained favour with the directors despite having no one’s interests at heart but their own created division within the business, and the daily micro-management that even went as far as having to ring in when you were out of the office, to advise when you were going into a meeting, with whom, and when you’d be back to the office (despite your diary clearly showing all the information), made it a very uncomfortable place to work. It became increasingly challenging when facing customers to promote a business that wasn't acting in the best interests of staff or its customers. If you aren’t prepared to make sacrifices to your work / personal life balance,(by sacrifice I mean eradicate) and work under a management microscope which will undoubtedly fail to recognise any talent you may have, then this isn’t the place for you. The saying goes you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, and whilst on the outside Sapphire may look like the ideal place to work, it’s a horror story underneath.
