Core business in home country (South Africa) remains profitable.
Total value rewards compensation is competitive.

    Cons

Heavy bureaucracy and governance structure slows decisions and makes some employees feel a lack of empowerment,

South African cultural and regulatory requirements can cast a long shadow across the organization globally.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course, you're moving in the right direction.

    I worked at Sasol full-time

    Pros

People are generally friendly, salary is good, benefits are good, although medical can be restrictive. It is an amazing company is what they do and the future does look very bright with new huge projects to take the company into the next few decades. Depending on department work-life balance can be very good.

    Cons

Culture can be stifling, and some people and leadership don't embrace a collaborative working culture, rather dictating (no exaggeration) terms and expectations, which even HR considered ridiculous. Some employed- for- life people stay because the salary and benefits and working hours are good. If you're in a support service like HR, legal, audit, administration etc opportunities can be few.

    Advice to Management

Try rotating people at lower levels from job to job more frequently. It might shake things up a bit and provide movement around and through the organization.

I have been working at Sasol full-time

    Pros

People at Sasol are great. Very friendly environment and the company always tries to move forward. Good place if you want to stay in one position and are comfortable being stagnate and receiving your regular 3-5% raise every year.

    Cons

South Africa is the headquarter parent company and has an agenda to fulfill, so do the people that they send to work in the US. HR does not help one bit and now that oil is going down people are getting laid off to save money but yet they bring others to replace them.

    Advice to Management

Start appreciating your people. Good ones are starting to leave.

    Pros

Excellent benefits, strong Company, personal advancement possibilities, relative job security.

    Cons

Just another number, lost personal touch. Negativity and low morale at all time high presently. Inzalo shares of personnel, not full disclosure of end results were communicated to employees, which is going to boomerang badly. Employees worked hard to reap the benefits

    Advice to Management

Stop, listen observe, find true facts and then act. Visit plants and get the real story from people on the floor that is directly involved. Listen and believe managers less and listen to your assets, your employees. Be fair, right person for the right job. Stop the biker boys club, and invest in competent managers that can ensure safety of the plant and surrounding areas and most importantly the people. All the unfair safety dismissals and incorrect safety measurements will not generate anything. Invest in listening to all. so much knowledge and experience is lost in the past 2 years without proper contingency plans. Be the Sasol that all was once proud of. It can be achieved again
