I worked at Save the Children as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great community, transparent, frequent contact with top leaders, people are there because they genuinely care about the work.

    Cons

Low pay (unpaid as an intern), could have been more exposed to other teams and other departments and their projects.

    Advice to Management

Give more structure to interns; being put into an "intern room" wasn't the best environment to learn on the ground from your team.

I have been working at Save the Children full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Mission, colleagues, generous PTO including paid time-off to care for family, acceptable Health benefits, development opportunities, leadership development, accountability, flexible work schedules available.

    Cons

Only "acceptable" Health benefits. Tangential benefits are lacking, pay equity seems to be an issue, way too top heavy, siloes between/within departments that are working against each other, unhealthy competition.

    Pros

Great place to learn about Global health/ international development. Great community and lovely people.

    Cons

-Not a lot of career opportunities after completing internships.
-Interns should be paid. It's not fair that they aren't.

I have been working at Save the Children as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Enjoyed my team and the opportunities to learn about the work they are doing. It also seems possible to find more opportunities within the organization following an internship. Very helpful team and positive work environment. Unpaid, but some benefits in the way of educational and networking opportunities.

    Cons

It took me quite a bit of effort to get projects that were more than simple administrative tasks. Rather than having tasks prepared from the get go, my supervisor started reaching out for tasks after I arrived, meaning some delay before I could actually be productive.

    Advice to Management

To use interns more effectively, it would be helpful to have a more clear plan for intern responsibilities from the start.
