I have been working at Saxbys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

If you want the traditional barista experience with a touch of coffee chain management, Saxbys is the happy medium. Not everything is streamlined (yet) and you still learn how to be a traditional barista. You still pull the espresso shots, steam the milk, etc. You gain familiarity with the overall cafe operations. The work culture is one of the best - team members are just generally very open and communicative.

    Cons

A lot of prep work goes into house made sauces, grab and go food, and general cafe upkeep. For the money that the company rakes in, they could definitely increase pay. Some tasks are very unconventional for the work you would expect as a barista.

    Advice to Management

Don't cut labor when cafe is still profitable. Understand that your employees are your greatest assets and a happy, loyal worker is what makes a business stand out not just to the guests but as a testament to the work culture. Allow for flexibility within shifts and know that while anchoring encourages responsibility, sometimes it can inhibit optimal operation. Increase pay differential between hosts and baristas as...

I worked at Saxbys part-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Fun team members to work with (at least at the Drexel cafe, which hired solely Drexel students) - 50% off drinks and 10% off food off shift, with 50% off food on shift -Good entry level experience to move into the food/beverage industry (training covers kitchen, making drinks, and operating register) -Servsafe certification when promoted to team lead -Company was philanthropic, and coordinated many partnerships/fundraising...

    Cons

-Some team members did not pull their weight and had an attitude when asked to -Food discount used to be 50% off with a free meal on long shifts (6+ hours) -Things get a little hectic when the manager switches every six months, and the extra work usually falls on the rest of the team. -Could be very short staffed at points, resulting in long shifts for almost everybody -Managers play favorites with hiring and promotions...

    Advice to Management

Increase compensation for tier II and III team leads (if not for all team members). A tier III's responsibilities are too close to a manager's for $10/hr.

I have been working at Saxbys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

It's a fun atmosphere, especially during a rush (if you enjoy high volume environments), tips aren't so bad, I've made good friends with coworkers, and you get free drinks and 50% discount on drinks all other saxbys locations.

    Cons

The pay is not enough for the amount of work/hours employees put in. I put a lot of energy into my job but I know that at the most, being part time, I can only make up to 10 dollars. I also don't feel like I have received proper training as a barista and would be clueless if thrown behind an upscale coffee bar.

    Advice to Management

Your "team members" will value their jobs and work harder if you give them a bit more pay!Team lead IIIs who have been with the company for years should not be making only 10 bucks an hour.

I worked at Saxbys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Only two baristas operate the entire cafe at once, and each split the tips at the end of each of their shifts'. - There was no manager on board when I worked there; therefore there was not much authority but the store still ran very smoothly. - The owner was very kind-hearted and lenient on sick/vacation days; the whole atmosphere of the store was very laid back. - Since Saxby's makes almost everything from scratch,...

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more management here in general if this store wants to grow any of its business. Most of the training was handled very properly and I was able to quickly learn how everything worked in the store. There is also either a huge excess of employees hired at this particular location, or not enough employees on the clock at once. You simply cannot put in enough hours here.

I worked at Saxbys full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Free coffee, that's pretty much it! Some of the people are nice, but the higher ups are narcissistic jerks! Don't be fooled by the image they portray, it's all fake people are miserable!

    Cons

If I could give it no stars or negative stars, I would! Don't be fooled by the dream you are sold during the interview. They expect you to work around the clock and don't compensate you enough. There is not much diversity in leadership and that's because you have to fit a certain image to go anywhere in the company. If you want to be a puppet and suck up to their CEO then you can grow, but otherwise you are seen as a...

    I worked at Saxbys

    Pros

Working at Saxbys can be invigorating. They make good choices in hires, for the most part, and do promote a familial theme within each store. While this may not be true for every store, my experience was very team-oriented, and I've heard others from other stores reflect on the same thing.

    Cons

As much as my store grossed daily, it was baffling seeing what baristas were paid. Just over minimum wage is unacceptable considering the workload. As much as you may not want to work at Starbucks, it's not like Saxbys is wildly different schematically, and Starbucks and other coffee shops likely pay more.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more. In 2016, your baristas should not be making $8/hr. Other than that, in-store management was awesome. One of which has been one of my best friends for a long time now.
