I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - All of the people I've met actually care about employee development - Haven't met anyone who turns their nose up and people that report to them (I'm sure they're out there but the overall experience is positive) - This company will pay you if you can prove you're worth it - This company will get rid of you if you can't pull your weight! - Promotes from within consistently, they take care of their own - Give you...

    Cons

    - Health Care is expensive! Highest of the companies I've worked for. They try to help out but it's still pretty expensive. They think it's competitive with others but it's not. I think they try and supplement the high cost by paying a little more but it didn't stop me from signing on. - They charge you for your vehicle (some other do, some don't). The car is the cheapest but if you get a full-size truck you'll pay...

    Advice to Management

    - Keep stocking the ranks with quality people! - For the love of all things, get laptops with 4G/LTE connectivity. We're not always around WiFi and setting up a hot spot is a pain in the keester

I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great compensation/benefits, exceeding the competition. Robust safety program/culture. Knowledgable and good people to work with in the office and field. Constantly innovating internal IT systems.

    Cons

Exceedingly lean with manpower both in the office and field. More time is spent putting out fires than getting to preventative maintenance. Seems to be more concern for meeting internal metrics, such has hours per day worked by mechanics, than delivering for the customer. National accounts has been allowed to enter into contracts that essentially give away the farm, putting significant strain on local offices.

    Advice to Management

The “do more with less” business model is not a recipe for long term growth.

I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay scale is great, company gave me a phone, a brand new truck to use for work and personal use, good vacation package, good health and dental

    Cons

You will be stressed all the time. You will be asked to do with 2 guys what used to be done with 5. Corporate has cut heads to the point where it is impossible to get your job done. We dont have enough hours to do preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs and management just says get it done.

I worked at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time

    Pros

Great technicians and field support. Company does offer bonus opportunities and there are multiple jobs in which lateral transfers can be made without damaging career potential. Good safety program - now.

    Cons

Long thankless hours to include weekends and holiday on-call duties. Product has become substandard to competitors, as has ability to provide quality customer service due to well overstretched workforce. Technicians are switching to Otis, Kone and TK. Schindler makes no efforts to invest in human capital (ie., younger techs) and continues to tolerate reported HR violations - specifically the Washington and Baltimore...

    Advice to Management

Go back 10-15 years and look at what made Schindler better than the rest. You will not survive if human capital investment is continually overlooked in concert with razor thin margins (and razor thin raw material budgets on equipment manufacturing) to achieve a double-digit profit margin. Quality people are leaving and going to competitors who actually have a vision of the industry 10 years from now.

I have been working at Schindler Elevator Corporation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Solid commitment by top levels of management to run a professional, ethical, and profitable business. Above average compensation package for the industry.

    Cons

None of that commitment from top management translates to the local level. Nobody is having fun, and everything is set up to fail. Local management is pressured into portfolio growth which often means aggressive bidding instead of value selling. Layoffs lead to excessive workloads, and the result has been that top talent leaves.

    Advice to Management

Reorganization. National management can't figure out how to be profitable and meet its contractual commitments.
