I have been working at Schlumberger full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The best oil service company in the world,
the most advanced technology, tools, the great training program for fresh outs.
Has access to pretty much to all kinds of data ( oil and gas related) all over the world
Coaching and mentoring system is ( at least till recent year) good

    Cons

Not clear career moves, the people management is callous indifference on pretty much all levels ( don't expect them to show too much understanding and support of your position), huge line of managers ( bureaucratic)

    Cons

System is designed to keep you working in field because when you go to office you take a BIG paycut.

I worked at Schlumberger full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are good. A old fashioned/structured training program that I did not care very much for, but many people enjoy it. Relatively secure work as an oil & gas engineer.

    Cons

While working in the field you work many hours (90-110/week). You will rarely sleep in your own bed. You will work most weekends and most if not all holidays.

    Advice to Management

Continue to encourage field employees to follow the company code of conduct. Honesty is a great policy.

I have been working at Schlumberger full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Spent time in Europe, Middle East, Australia and USA in first 4 years, which was awesome. The work is challenging, but you often work in a team that is like family. You will get dirty in the field and move your way into the office and then sometimes back in to the field. The training is top notch.

    Cons

The market took a big hit, but is slowly coming back now. There is often high expectations which require overtime work. Difficult to balance family and work. Sometimes it seems like every month you are learning a whole new skill, which can be tiring.

    Advice to Management

Show some appreciation to the guys in the field and pushing papers. They often spend extra hours and effort to get the job done right and on time. They do it for the family atmosphere, but little appreciation from up top.
