I worked at Schlumberger (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is paying above average and decent hours overall. Especially with the right team, it can be a lot of fun and extremely flexible to move around.

    Cons

The company doesn't sponsor green cards so they want you somewhat own you by only getting you temporary visas. Some management is very old school. If you are French, you can get into good positions but if you are not, you won't pass mediocre mgmt job..

    Advice to Management

Stop firing people. They carry the company forward. The company depends on the talent. It is the biggest investment you can make. It is amazing when they lay off thousands of people buy spend the money on stock buybacks at the same time.

I have been working at Schlumberger full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good coworkers and benefits. Travel occasionally if you want it. Schlumberger has good training schools. Pay is ok but leaves much to be desired.

    Cons

If you are not an engineer then look elsewhere. Management will throw you under the bus. Promotions are slow at best.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees and they will care about you.

I have been working at Schlumberger (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Health Benefits
    Reasonably priced cafeteria meals
Saving the company money the longer I stay here.

    Cons

Approaching 4 years with this company and still stuck with base salary and entry level repetitive robot tasks.
-no growth and development (this applies due to poor selfish management)
-new hires get welcome gifts and packages in front of my face. Where was mine?
-no bonus or raise for being a non exempt employee. Overtime has been put to a halt, no words on when it will be brought back.
-perks are being cut and seems it will not be brought back when business picks back up. (fitness reimbursement, Metro ridershare costs, coffee creamers, utensils, company lunches, holiday parties)
-pointless slp3. Why even bother setting objectives and goals for non exempts when they do not get rewarded for it?

Its a good place to work if you are under the wing of a good manager.

    Advice to Management

    Do what is right.

I worked at Schlumberger full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large company, good pay and benefits, reputation in the industry.

    Cons

The management is a mess, many managers do not really care the people working in the team.
Be cautious to its tough culture, in particular at this downturn time. A lot of employees who have contributed to the company and working hard were laid off because of the position cut. People are leaving the company for better chances.
Some managers treat employees like labors, and no much opportunities to build your career in a short-term focused company and team.

    Advice to Management

Take some time and learn how other companies develop their people. Identify your talents and develop them. The company will lose much more if you do not care your employees. Do 360 performance review instead only up-to-down appraisal.

I have been working at Schlumberger full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The unexpected experience. Company can teach you how to work as six-handed Sheeva :)

    Cons

    Applies to Russia:
    - actual salary doesn't fit job offer even after 3+ years of working
    - almost no travelling abroad (as it written in SLB motivation booklet)
    - many employees do the vision of intensive working, trying to delegate every job
    - replacing of good experienced people with cost-effective "green-hats" former graduates (experienced employees went off because of underpaid)

    Advice to Management

Need to review management and motivation system on top-level and update to make it smooth and more employee-friendly especially at low margin business segments.

I worked at Schlumberger (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Money, Training, the people, opportunities to travel

    Cons

With the down-turn field engineers have basically been turned into glorified secretaries in the field. We spend all day collecting data in spread sheets and writing reports. No real petroleum engineering going on any more. A lot of engineers are getting burnt out. Also, field engineers used to make a lot more money when they were on job bonus. Currently only get salary and day rate. Long hours - no work/life balance

    Advice to Management

Get field engineers back on job bonus

    Pros

Good growth potential, good compensation and work life balance

    Cons

too many processes, works like a government company. Very slow to get quick things done. Too many redundant managers

    Advice to Management

Cut the red tape, classify things as fast track and cut routine lengthy processes. documentation takes longer than regular design work
