I worked at Schlumberger full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent training, lots of opportunity, possibility of working in other countries, competitive compensation. Generally, great people to work with.

    Cons

If you aren't an engineer or a geoscientist, career advancement is tough. Must work relationships and politics to manage your career.

    Advice to Management

Cut the fat at the top. Way too many senior management people are saved in lateral moves or non-positions. While they may have made a significant contribution in the past, letting them move on would allow SLB to keep young technical people who still have lots to contribute. Further, lay-off decisions are too often made for "personality" reasons, and not based on true contribution, or because a person isn't "liked" by the person making the layoff decision.

    I worked at Schlumberger full-time

    Pros

Laid back in culture. Not as cut throat as other tech companies that serve external clients since work was mainly done for products used within the company.

    Cons

Sometimes too laid back especially about software development best practices and not always very efficient and not at par with industry standards.

    Advice to Management

Give euqal importance to the software sector as is done to other segments.
