I have accepted an offer to work for a new company in another state. But I have some worries about the recession. How do utilities/energy management companies like Siemens, Schneider Electric, GE fair during recessions? Likelihood of a rescinded offer? Does anyone have any experience with switching jobs during a recession?

Schneider is a nice place to work depending on your personal goals and salary requirements.

    Pros

Family atmosphere at a large company. Most management is easy to talk to. Work to life ratio is well balanced.

    Cons

The pay is low and they will pay as little as you allow them to pay you. Vacation time is fair but health insurance is horrible.

    Not impressed at all

    Pros

No slip seat, you get your own truck that you don't have to split with someone else. They'll allow you to transfer to a different account almost immediately, as often as you want.

    Cons

The pay is terrible and not worth the amount of time you spend away from home. It's supposed to be $0.40/mile but my pay reflects something closer to $0.36/mile. They waste a lot of your time trying to find loads for you. The planners seem to have no idea what they're doing. It's often difficult to get a hold of your leader.

They have a great open door policy and treat everyone with respect.

    Cons

Pay is a little behind the curve and red tape is a little excessive at time.

    Pros

Easy work if you shuttle trailers back and forth. As workload increases, SLIGHTLY higher pay. Management ok.

    Cons

Easy work=very low pay. They get away with paying drivers such a small wage because they take drivers straight out of driving school. Turnover rate is extremely high. Supposed to be 'slip-seat' and no seniority, but of course that's not the case.

Thank you for the candidate feedback and review. We know we're not perfect in everything we do but we are listening to drivers to make Schneider better. We have a hire-to-retire philosophy and many drivers that have over 10 or 20 plus years with us. Thank you and drive safe!

    Best, Better, Worst

    Aug 5, 2011 - Truck Driver

    Pros

SNI operating centers are welcoming. The clean showers, and free laundry facilities are appreciated. The fuel desk staff at most of the operating centers are friendly, helpful, and often go above and beyond to help drivers passing through.

    Cons

Team leaders constantly talk about how important it is for drivers to 'communicate, communicate, communicate' but they do not communicate with us. Insurance benefits are far below mid-market for the industry. Bonus pay is impossible to earn unless you are willing to sacrifice personal comfort and time at home. I was told I would run at least 2500 miles per week and often barely get 1000. Two extra days out this past week got me up to 2300. No raises to drivers who do not earn two quarterly bonuses, and no pay for empty miles home. So dead heading me 90+ miles home counts as out-of-route miles which will (along with idle hours to stay cool enough to rest during breaks or long waits for loading or unloading) disqualify me for any bonus. Hold times on the phone can often last 15 to 30 minutes. Phones calls are routed to support shift too early each day. Customer information is too often lacking correct information such as contact phone numbers, whether or not parking is allowed on site, appt. times are given for companies who work on a fcfs basis, and on and on it goes.

    Poor leadership

    Nov 28, 2018 - Carrier Sales Executive
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

I worked here full time as a carrier sales executive for about 8 months.. I learned alot about the transportation industry coming fresh out of school. I took the oppourtunity to grow and establish a very diverse book of 3pl carriers and leveraged key accounts. Incentive structure was nice if met Emphasis on servant leadership

    Cons

Base Salary needs to be much higher. You are expected to work around the clock to meet your numbers and the incentive structure was by no means easy to obtain. This makes other sales associates unwilling to help you and steal from your prospects Very Clickish if you did not fit in with someone there you were left out i see this rise up even at a executive level. Poor communication from management everything is on a need to know basis CEO is very over payed and not rarely involved in lower level managment Care way to much about numbers and not enough about staff
