I have been working at School District of Philadelphia (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Offers the opportunity to participate in student learning and observe different teaching styles and methods as a substitute teacher.

    Cons

Although substituting offers the opportunity to participate in student learning there are frustrations in not being able to attest student progress since long-term assignments are limited to specialized fields. For example, K-9 an experienced and certified substitute can teach and structure a class but must respect limited authorization.

    Advice to Management

If management is unable to locate a certified teacher in the fields of ELA, Mathematics or History, they should choose the next capable and certified substitute who has had experience in the schools.
