I have been working at SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Benefits, training, empowerment, leadership team

    Cons

Little upward movement opportunities due to the size of company

    Advice to Management

Treat your team fairly and give them a chance to thrive and grow. Walk the walk not just the talk. In such a small organization, its easy to become stagnant however; change is not a bad thing. Embrace the different and accept that the old way is not always the best way.

    Pros

Health insurance coverage is incredible. 401k match to 6%. Company events. Stable employer. Great work/life balance. Salary is a bit lower than industry average but is more than made up with the benefits

    Cons

No place is perfect. I would say that most of the managers are lazy and don't work hard. They are just milking the position and nice salary. Since it's so cushy and stable, managers rarely leave

    Advice to Management

I've had four bosses so far and the lazy boss is a constant theme. Push management to actually work, be examples for the rank and file.

I worked at SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone here is genuinely nice. The company recruits people based on character and thus you end up with a lot of people who are good to their co-workers and their customers.

    Cons

This really is a great place to work. The only con might be that salaries aren't as competitive as other banks, but that's likely because it is a credit union and not a private company with shareholders.

    Advice to Management

I would advise that management look into options to improve pay so that talented employees stay rather than moving to private financial institutions.

I have been working at SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Member-centric, great benefits (100% paid for employee and ALL dependents), Growth potential / potential to apply for & explore other positions before you apply. Pay is above average for Credit Unions.

    Cons

Easy to move up in your current department but hard to transition to other departments if you want to learn something new and add to your skill set - other than job shadowing which is hard to schedule. Growing pains: still small-size mentality though growing business to the point where the workload outweighs the employee availability. Processes are severely outdated and are overlooked due to tenure of managers doing things the old fashioned way and not recognizing holes or problems with current practices.

    Advice to Management

Continue to speak to teammembers to get real information on what the Members are saying about processes - good/useful information comes from all levels of teammembers, not just Management.
