I worked at Schurz Communications full-time

    Pros

Company was large enough to offer great benefits and small enough to try to get to know its properties.
Schurz invests in its businesses. At the time that other newspaper companies were making massive newsroom cuts, Schurz was holding pretty steady and even making new investments in its newsrooms. Company embraces traditional, solid news gathering while at the same time embracing and supporting new technology. I definitely would work for Schurz again.

    Cons

Sometimes it seemed that traditional readers were not taken as seriously as those who embraced only new technologies and storytelling. A great newspaper needs both.

I worked at Schurz Communications full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I liked most the people I worked with: ) I also enjoyed the three-weeks paid vacation available right away at prorated for the calendar year in which you start!!!!!

    Cons

Poor upper management, expectations and monthly sales goals are not realistic, the sales reps do not make their goals most months because of unreasonable demands for the newspaper industry...

    Advice to Management

Pay higher wages to your Sales Reps and I promise you will have much less turnover, HIGHER SALES and better PROFITS!

I have been working at Schurz Communications full-time

    Pros

You get to meet a lot of awesome business owners and people know the radio stations.

    Cons

I am considered a "sales" person however I do not make commission on my sales. If my revenue exceeds the previous years revenue for an event I get a minimal bonus. If I do not hit the goal, I receive no commission. I am underpaid compared to another employee who started 90 days after I did with similar experience in radio.

    Pros

Really great place to work. Staff is very knowledgable and the digital department is ahead of everyone else in the broadcast industry.

    Cons

The fact that they sold all of their TV stations.

I have been working at Schurz Communications full-time

    Pros

On the company wide level there are no complaints, good insurance, they seem to have an open ear to any major concerns, pay is not too shabby.

    Cons

On the local level management is scattershot and not properly reigned in. One day an idea is great, the next its terrible. Jobs not clearly defined which leaves some with way too much work and others with too little.

    Advice to Management

pick a plan and stick to it!

    Cons

Sold of many of their media companies since 2015, what will the future bring for its many employees?
